We are homeschoolers and this would help us tremendously in our studies. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with others to help us on our own journey. It is a Blessing to read your Blog and how you implement things. We are new to homeschooling and this has helped us to grow together as a family as well!

Hi Crystal,

Basically, yes, they enjoy it. We don't get any complaints, I think that the heart of what your asking may be answered in my series of posts on <a href="http://raisingolives.com/2010/01/do-you-have-your-childs-heart/" rel="nofollow">your child's heart</a>.

God has blessed us with children who love the Lord and love us. Bible reading is something that we do every day, it's a normal part of our life and our children don't question it or complain about it any more than they question or complain about making their bed or brushing their teeth.

I understand your concerns and Mark and I had those initially, but we believed that God would bless faithfulness and we believe that part of faithfulness is reading His Word. In our situation, we have not seen their joy in reading God's Word vanish.

May God bless you in this busy season of life.

This is amazing to me! I have a few questions if you have a second to answer... I have four 5 and under and will be doing this soon I imagine... so do your children enjoy doing this much Bible reading? (I see you do 4 times in a year now). When they complain about it, how do you address that? I agree this is a habit of holiness we want to instill. But I would fear that forcing them to read this much every day would take away their finding joy from God's word... I would fear pushing them might remove the delighting if it became a long checklist. I would love to hear your thoughts of experience!!

My 9 year old son was reading Leviticus last week when he asked what it meant that two meant couldn't lie together. THAT was a fun conversation, much of which we had to save until later because my son's 3 younger siblings were there!

Great post! Thanks for the encouragement.

We read the Toddler Bible each morning together (she can't read at 2 years old) and she likes it.

I cannot wait until she can read the Bible for herself.

Thank you Kori.

We usually just discuss what we've been reading, however we have used <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0977264602?ie=UTF8&tag=raisoliv-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0977264602" rel="nofollow">Balancing the Sword </a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=raisoliv-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0977264602" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> for discussion or comprehension questions during family worship and it would work well for the kids daily Bible reading as well. Both volumes cover the whole Bible and all of the questions are completely different. It even comes with Bible reading software so that you can design your own Bible reading plan.

Thank you so much for using your talents and passion for families to share your insights. I am in the midst of getting a "spiritual growth plan" together and would like to know if you give your kids any kind of study or question guide for their daily Bible reading. I have a 9 and 7 year old that i'd like to get started on the new testament reading in a year. my oldest is use to following a yearly reading plan and is wired to think and process information on his own. However, I'm trying to figure out how to make it a more useful time for my 7 year old other than, "I read my assignment." Do you teach your kids to follow a study system of any kind while they read the Bible or do you just let them at it and try to incorprate what they are reading at other times so you know they are "getting" what they are reading?

Your site has been a blessing!

I'm so glad you like the idea. It's super having the little ones reading the New Testament portions while you're reading the whole thing, it makes it easy to check up on how they are doing. This also leads to a lot of good discussions around the dinner table each evening.

Oh, I LOVE this!! I had never, ever thought of using this plan (this is very close to one I used myself a couple years ago) and having my beginning readers only do the New Testament portion. Duh!!! Love, love, love it. And this is SO happening starting Jan 1.

When I began blogging I used blog carnivals to help gain exposure. "Works for Me Wednesday" "Wordless Wednesday" and "Not Me Mondays" are ones that I still participate in as I have time.

Other than that, just beginning to build relationships with others in the online community.

Thank you Becky.
We have been reading through the Bible with our children since our oldest was 5 so for nearly 7 years. I am amazed at how familiar our children are with the scriptures as a whole. This was one of those things that we started doing early and it has proven to be an amazing blessing to our family.

Blessings,
Kimberly

This is a very helpful post for me as a young mom of a 2yo and 10mo! I hope (as my children grow up) to incorporate this idea into their training as well!
How many years have you been reading through the Bible together? I imagine over your entire childhood that the Bible would become so much more familiar, understood as a whole, and so very precious!
