Several of you have asked about book recommendations. I still intend to post about those, but I received word of this sale a few days ago and had to pass it on. These two series would be high on my list of recommended reading, along with Hentys and Lamplighters (but those aren’t on sale right now).
The Ballantyne books are wonderful, God-honoring adventure stories and my girls fly through these as well as the boys. These are even my husband, Mark’s current reading. He is on his second or third book and he’s not much of a “for fun” reader.
The Elsie Dinsmore books are favorites will all of our girls. We have even gotten them some of these books on Cd for birthday gifts and they are begging for more. Elsie is a sweet little girl who grows to a woman through the series. You will be amazed and convicted by her tender conscience and her will to always obey God.
If you’re interested, hurry this sale ends Tuesday, April 28.

I’ve never heard of those books but my daughter would probably love them. Thank you for sharing this!

“Anne of Green Gabels” is the first in a series written by Lucy Maude Montgomery. My oldest daughter loved the whole series and so did I!
About a imaginative orphan girl going through the trials of finding a home to grow up in and the trials every child has growing up. Ms. Mongomery develops very endearing characters that are relatable to children and adults. The plots are warm and uplifting and there are no “bad guys” just good people trying to work out problems without hurting each other. These solutions usually come about in a way that is best for all involved.
Your children will learn about:
Telling the truth(even when you’re afraid)
Respect for others
Love of nature
importance of education
resolving conflict without violence
Plus many more things. The books are full of humor, joy, hope and love. But you may be sad when you finish, because you still want more. They are older books but that is part of their charm in my opinion.
There is a couple of DVDs of the first four books but I highly recomend you read the books first…much more detailed. The DVDs are well produced and you will likely enjoy them too.
