"Anne of Green Gabels" is the first in a series written by Lucy Maude Montgomery. My oldest daughter loved the whole series and so did I!
About a imaginative orphan girl going through the trials of finding a home to grow up in and the trials every child has growing up. Ms. Mongomery develops very endearing characters that are relatable to children and adults. The plots are warm and uplifting and there are no "bad guys" just good people trying to work out problems without hurting each other. These solutions usually come about in a way that is best for all involved.
Your children will learn about:
Telling the truth(even when you're afraid)
 Respect for others
 Love of nature
 importance of education
 resolving conflict without violence
Plus many more things. The books are full of humor, joy, hope and love. But you may be sad when you finish, because you still want more. They are older books but that is part of their charm in my opinion.
There is a couple of DVDs of the first four books but I highly recomend you read the books first...much more detailed. The DVDs are well produced and you will likely enjoy them too.
