Rachel’s story hits close to home. My mother was a little younger than Rachel’s 37 when she was given a 6 months to live diagnosis which changed our family forever. Then during the past year one of my dear friends died of lung cancer caused by high radon levels in her home. We were room mates our freshman year of college and she was a bride’s maid in my wedding. She left a husband and 3 young children in addition to father, mother and siblings. Our family still prays for hers daily as they cope with the loss. Through it all my friend maintained a testimony of God’s love and faithfulness which was beautiful to see and an encouragement to those of us who loved her.
How can a loving God allow a young mother to die and a murderer to live to a ripe old age? This is a long video, but I believe that it is worth your time. You may want to turn up your speakers and listen while you fold laundry or wash the dishes.
Death is not Dying video from Rachel Barkey
God is God, what we believe or think about Him does not change who He is. If we do not believe in the God revealed to us in the scriptures then we do not believe in God.
We are sinners and the fact that I am alive today and the fact that you are still breathing, testifies that God is merciful and has given us both much more than we deserve. Are you healthy? Do you have a home? Children? A dishwasher? God is indeed gracious and gives us good gifts.
Rachel says this and much more, beautifully as she shares what she has learned on this path toward death.
