For today’s tip I want to introduce you to an inexpensive resource for beating the summertime doldrums or being recharged and encouraged. There are also just some fun, educational ideas to spend time with your kids. Interested? You should check out The Old Schoolhouse’s new line of eBooks. WeE-books are short books, around 7-10 pages, on a variety of topics. From unit study ideas to thoughts on “me time” these books hit numerous topics near and dear to a homeschoolers heart.
The “Me Time” Myth was appropriate and timely as I struggled to balance blogging, homeschooling, and housework along with time to snuggle and love on my children. Amy Roberts explains that if you seek to fill yourself up rather than turning to God for your needs, you will never be satisfied.
My children laughed as I read them the story about the Allen family and their egg-sac-laying pet Black Widow in Entomology: The Study of Insects. They are now searching for some multi-legged critters to capture and keep as their very own pets and Matthew has asked for a terrarium for his birthday. Does that mean I’m going to have to rethink the rule of no unauthorized critters living in the house? Although after the whole bug in the bottle escapade, I’m less inclined to become more lenient, but maybe if they were better at identifying things…
I was inspired by Jeannie Fulbright’s Missing in Action or Mentoring in Action? to continue to find the time (we all have a little) to pour into younger homeschooling moms who are just starting out. Don’t you remember how overwhelmed you were before you had a few homeschooling years under your belt? Don’t you wish someone had given you some guidance?
I found these We-eBooks to be uniformly thought provoking and encouraging, with many helpful pictures and illustrations. They are short, so don’t expect an exhaustive discussion, but they are terrific to get you started, spark your imagination and get you thinking. Need an idea for a rainy summer afternoon with the kids? Need some help with a particular homeschooling struggle? With more than 40 quality titles of We-eBooks to choose from and a price tag of under $2, you are sure to find something to spark your interest.
Some of the other We-eBook titles are, Blaise Pascal−Mathematician Extraordinaire! By Diana Waring, Science on the Wings of a Butterfly, The Italian Renaissance, The Real Hummers (all about hummingbirds), The Shocking Truth about Electricity, and Beating the Summertime Blues.
