I’m really excited about some products that our family is currently reviewing and wanted to let you in on some of the excitement by giving you a sneak peek at what I’ll be talking about soon on Raising Olives.
You’ve seen it in my sidebar, well the Homeschool Crew is finally getting underway. We received our first product just this week and had our first official lesson today. Grapevine Studies offers a Bible curriculum that starts with an overview in the form of a time line of what you are studying and then fills in the details fitting them into the time line framework that was introduced initially. If you’ve read this blog for long, you know that we focus on Biblical instruction with regular Bible reading, family worship and memorization.
What is initially appealing about our new Grapevine Study is that it incorporates drawing with each lesson. This has been missing in our Bible study and I think that this will be beneficial for some of our children who are more tactile and visual learners.
This is what our chalkboard wall looks like right now.
For perspective you can see the ceiling in the top left corner of the photo and there is an outlet at the bottom of the picture. Our wall is covered top to bottom with a basic time line of Old Testament events. Since I enjoy drawing portraits in my free time, the children loved laughing at my gawky stick figures and even the little ones enjoyed pointing out different Biblical figures to Daddy when he got home.
I will be reviewing the Old Testament Overview levels 2-4, as well as a multi-level study on the book of Esther. All levels of the OT Overview coordinate, so we will be multi-grading everything. I have a lot more to say, but will save it for the review!
Before the week is out I plan on posting my nearly now completed review of SpellQuizzer, a computer program that will work with any spelling program and will save you a lot of time by giving your children spelling tests and quizzes for you. Our kids are begging to take spelling tests and I read that some have even used it to quiz their children on Latin declensions and conjugations, talk about creative.
Then just this afternoon my box of goodies arrived from Skin Free. Super Moisture Body Balm, After Shower Moisture Spray, Extra Moisturizing Soap, Whipped Tamanu Body Butter, Naiouli Butter Stick and Sweet and Smooth Sugar Scrub, OH MY!
They sound good enough to eat and with all natural ingredients and a toxicity rating of “0″ from the Environmental Working Group you practically can, eat them that is. The ingredients in the Skin Free Soap? Coconut oil, Palm oil, Olive seed oil, Shea butter, Cocoa seed butter, and Vitamin E. We cook with most of those ingredients. Everything looks wonderful, but I’ll let you know how we like them in a few weeks.
