Top Secret Mission Accomplished

Mark nanny beach

Today is my mother-in-law’s birthday.  I know better than to tell all of you which birthday.  (You’re welcome mom. :) )  My mother-in-law lives about 12 hours away in New York City.  So yesterday morning Mark and 3 of our children (Alyssa 8, Carter 7, and Colby 2) started on their top secret mission of paying Nanny a visit on her birthday.

We packed them food to fix a big birthday dinner which will include a few aunts and uncles who are up in the city.  We also figured it was a good idea because she didn’t know that she should be expecting any company and may not have been to the grocery store. (Have I ever mentioned that our kids can eat?)  They’ll have steak, potatoes, salad,  and cheese cake.  We also packed some breakfast necessities, threw some clothes, books on CD and a few pillows into the car and they were off.

Around midnight last night they arrived and Mark called his mom on the phone saying that he wanted to be the very first to wish her a happy birthday.  Just after she answered the phone, he rang the buzzer to be let into her apartment building.  She excused herself from the phone and went to see who was at the outer door.  When she said hello on the intercom the children yelled, “Happy Birthday, Nanny!”  Mission Accomplished, she never saw it coming.

Our Mother

Author Unknown

You are the mother I received
The day I wed your son.
And I just want to thank you, Mom
For all the things you’ve done.

You’ve given me a gracious man
With whom I share my life.
You are his loving mother and
I his blessed wife.

You used to pat his little head,
And now I hold his hand.
You raised in love a little boy
And gave to me a man.

I’ve been blessed with a wonderful mother-in-law and am thankful to her for the son that she raised.

Happy Birthday, MOM!

Thats a beautiful poem, I had been thinking of giving a gift to my soon to be inlaws for the help with the wedding they’ve given as my family isn’t here or interested. If I do so, I think I might include that poem.
