Several of you asked to see pictures of the cake that we made using the train pan that I found at the yard sale. This gives me a great excuse since I aim to please I decided to post a few pictures from Colby’s third birthday.
At our house we celebrate birthdays fairly simply and it’s a good thing because Colby begins one of our two birthday seasons. We will have 4 birthdays over the next month. (Here is a fun Olive fact; did you know that beginning with our fourth child through our eighth child God sent them every 18 months? We had a baby in August then February then August then February then August, is that interesting or just strange?)
At any rate, Colby was excited about his birthday and Colby LOVES trains. I think that I may have mentioned it before. Colby only reads books if they have pictures of trains. He only wants you to tell him train stories and listen to train CD’s and he always plays with trains. So a train cake was the perfect thing.

Everyone helped by decorating their very own car. (Notice our “princess” Savannah (4) is dressed the part.)
Colby didn’t need to take turns, he helped through the whole process.
This picture captures a bit of Colby’s personality. He’s a lot sugar and a lot spice.
Colby really got into his gifts,
and he got some great works of art from his siblings.
(Easy decorating for birthday parties, another advantage of having a magnetic wall.)
With each birthday that passes I keep thinking that I will post a birth story and you can ask my OB, midwives or Mark we have had several doozies! *sigh* There is just not enough time in my day.

That is too cute, Kimberly! You found that train cake pan just in time for Colby’s birthday, and it’s yet another of your yard sale finds of which I’m envious! Great job!

How simply adorable! I was thinking like a flat pan in the shape of a train! But no, it’s 3D! How fun!

Amazing! I don’t think I could even do a tenth of as an amazing job as the “Olives” did.
I want to hear more about this magnetic wall! Looks like a great idea!!

Love the cake. How many cars does one pan make? My kids would want to know if they each got to eat a whole car! Now if you just lived closer I could borrow that pan… and I could let you borrow my castle pan for your little princess!

Thanks everyone!!
Did you all see the presents that God provided at yard sales? I posted about them here. He had a wonderful day.
Jama,
The cake pan makes 9 cars at one time and uses half of a box of cake mix. Of course I don’t KNOW that for a fact since I’m such a “perfectionist” (right MomStarr?) that I made the cake from scratch. (You know I’m being sarcastic, right?)

Great cake! I love that the kids can decorate their own train cars.
God planned our kids birthdays in an interesting way, too. We have 5 birthdays (4 kids plus me) in 6 days in January, and we have 3 September birthdays. We have often been asked, “Wow! What happens 9 months before January?” Well, in actuality … my husband is a school teacher and spring break is 9 months before January, while Christmas vacation is 9 months before September. We think it’s pretty funny. We also had 1 child in April and 2 in June. So, our birthdays are pretty bunched up.

Raise your hand if you think Kimberly is a perfectionist! I told her she also exercises her perfectionism on births. She is aiming for the perfect birth! And if I know Kimberly she will have it!!

Your little guy seems very similar to my Nicholas. Except Nicholas eats, sleeps, and breaths dinosaurs. Everything in his world can be connected to dinosaurs in some way. So, you guessed it, I’m on the hunt for the perfect dinosaur cake by November!
