When I put Nicholas down for a late nap after a long, busy day, I did not decide to let him sleep through dinner and when he was still sleeping at bed time I did not allow him to continue to sleep through the night.
When he woke up early the next morning, I did not pull some leftovers out of the fridge, put my starving baby on the floor and allow him to eat leftovers off a stool. (That would be gross, right?)
We did not put off celebrating our daughter’s 13th birthday for more than a month and we do not LOVE, LOVE, LOVE having a teenager. I’m not happy that I get to be a mom to teenagers for the next 18 years because everyone knows that teens are horrible, so I’m certainly not looking forward to it, not me.
Yesterday morning when I finished brushing the girls hair and Mark was telling the children to get into the car, we did not find our two youngest angels like this:
(It’s cane sugar.) Late for church? No, not us!
These things never happen in our family.
Want to read more? I’ve posted a lot more “Not Me Mondays”.

Haha! We’ve never had the sugar incident happen at our house, either. Uh-uh! And it’s amazing how Sunday seems to be a magnet for those types of things…

I have very similar pics of my kiddos and sugar…and flour…and the worst, chocolate chips! You would think I would learn to put things up! Great post, teenagers are a kick in the pants! Kim

I’m glad to know those things do NOT happen to you, because they don’t happen to us, either. We’re never late for church, and we always celebrate birthdays on time, and we are so excited about the teen years. NOT!

Haha all disasters must happen on Sunday mornings while trying to get out the door for church. It’s like a scientific law or something. We’re kind of past that stage in my family now, but haha we’ve had our share of Sunday morning disasters.
And happy 13th to your older DD. The teen years are well, the teen years. But enjoy them while they last! A friend posted a picture of a bunch of friends and I on Facebook from when we were about 14 or 15, and although we looked ridiculous, I couldn’t help but think, “wow, I miss those days.”

I really LOVE your NOT ME Monday posts…they crack me up…and help me to see that our life isn’t as out there as we think!
I love the post about the teenager too…do you celebrated for a month? THat is great…when my oldest 2 turned 13, they had about 10 days of a celebration with special activities planned for each day…I would love to here more about what your celebration was like!

Sadly we don’t celebrate for a month. We do simple birthday celebrations around here. Amber (the one who just turned 13) loves to cook and she plans an elaborate menu for her birthday dinner and then prepares it for all of us. This year was Italian, all the way down to the scrumptious homemade pasta.

Amber is becoming one of my best friends. It is so sweet watching her turn into a young lady!

That was too funny…I don’t have a stinker who does things like that either…

awe, but they sure looked cute …

Ha! It seems virtually impossible to me to get everyone clean at the same time (and of course to remain that way).

I really LOVE your blog. I think it looks great. It is simple and the posts are the focal point. That is my favorite I hate wading through a bunch of stuff to get to the posts so just keep doing what you are! Thanks for your comments and tweets! OH and I have NEVER done any of those things either and I only have three kids! haha

What handsome suits the boys are in! I believe in dressing up a bit for church but that’s the most extravagant I’ve ever seen for children, but I think it’s great! Where do you find the clothes in their sizes without costing a fortune? What do the girls wear? I would love to see a picture next week of everyone dressed up for church
Sorry if I seem a little overeager but in the churches I’ve attended my husband and I are some of the very smartest dressed, and all I wear is a nice skirt and top, and he wears his good jeans, a good, ironed, shirt and maybe his formal jacket depending on his mood. People just don’t dress for church anymore.
Perhaps you could do a post about why you choose to and how you go about it and how you deal with the ‘looks’

The wonderful thing is that ALL of the boys suits have been given to us as hand-me-downs. One of my friends who regularly buys suits for her boys told me that she can purchase a child’s sized suit at Burlington Coat Factory for $25-30.
The girls all just wear dresses or sometimes nice skirts. I’ll think about a post and I will share a picture, providing I remember and no one gets into the sugar again.

Your Not Me Mondays are hilarious. I may or may not have been known to let a baby sleep through supper-time.
And on being late to church: we were 2 minutes from going out the door to church this Sunday when the almost completely potty trained 3 yr old announced he needed to poop. Glad we weren’t trying to catch a train!

Thanks Amy. Can you imagine living in a large city where you do need to catch the train? My mother-in-law lives in NYC and we have a lot of fun visiting, but public transportation with children stresses me out.
