The Government Can

I know that I’m about a month late on this video that has been sweeping the internet, but in case you haven’t seen it yet, I thought that I’d share it with you. Be prepared for a laugh or at least a chuckle over this 3 minute video.

Do you have any fun videos you want to share?  Don’t assume that I’ve already seen it, I probably haven’t.  :)

I had not seen that – funny and sadly all too true. I’m sending my family over to watch it, they’ll get a kick out of it.

i just LOVE this video! I have to admit I’m addicted to it! :) I want to keep watching it and singing the catchy little tune while I do my housework! I think Tim Hawkins is brilliant — the way he disguises the bitter medicine in a such a sweet, catchy little tune! :)

Yes, my dear you are a month or so late, however, its always good timing to share a laugh about such a hopeless looking situation. I like to laugh about such matters as our government or I will cry….

Only the Government can charge you for a service they DON’T provide. Could the local plumber show up at your door and give you a bill for work he DIDN’t do? No but the Government Can!!! So sad……when are we all going to say ENOUGH uncle sam!!!!!!

Okay, I get it, paying taxes is evil, and all the money goes to everyone else. The only problem is, I drive on roads, am protected by public safety officials and food inspection, have my savings guaranteed, and I benefit from living within an educated populace (whether or not I send my own children to public school) all from tax money. The truth is, taxes benefit all of us one way or another. And the founding fathers never said we should run our dear nation without any money. This kind of propaganda is hateful and insidiously misleading, no matter how goofily the package is wrapped.

    Lauren,

Simply because some of the things that our taxes pay for are good, useful things does not mean that the system isn’t broken. Using your argument, the government could take all of everyone’s income, distribute it as they wish and so long as they did some good with it, so long as “taxes benefit all of us one way or another” they would be justified.

You are right “the founding fathers never said we should run our dear nation without any money”. They did give very specific and limited means for our federal government to raise the funds necessary to accomplish their very specific and limited responsibilities. You mentioned a few things that government can have a role in (none of which were mentioned in the video), but nothing for which the FEDERAL government was given responsibility or authority. Roads and public safety can be roles for local or state governments. Our state constitution (TN) guarantees a public education, but our federal government has no role in education according to the 10th amendment of our Constitution.

The propaganda that says the government has the authority to take my tax dollars and pay for mothers to KILL their children or to declare and wage war preemptively is “hateful and insidiously misleading” no matter how the government tries to wrap it up in a cloak of compassion. Pointing out that the government is overstepping their Constitutional bounds when they are taking tax dollars and bailing out privately owned corporations, giving people money to buy new cars, and thrusting our nation and our children into incomprehensible debt is merely responsible.

I have apparently been under a rock and am seeing this for the first time. LOVE IT! I’ll be sharing, and I don’t often share videos :)

It’s pretty sad that we are thankful for humor in the midst of such a frightening set of circumstances….
