One of our favorite holiday gift ideas is giving popcorn and homemade movie tickets to family. They are then invited to our family movie night for a special time with the kids.

I love giving photos as gifts. This would be perfect for the grandparents.

This year we decided that we would make all our family’s gifts. We have gotten very creative. I am making lip balm, sewing portfolio covers, and making candles. The kids are even working on projects. In years past we’ve given a small photo book that has an activity/gift certificate for each month of the coming year—those are a huge hit!

One of the best gifts my hubby made was a dvd of pictures of my parents over their 45 years of marriage, set to beautiful music.

Our best gift idea is our handmade family photo calendar. It’s requested by family members each year. If we ever have to stop doing it, they’ll be disappointed.

Not sure where I’d hang this if I won, but I’d find a place.

Once when we were in rough times financially with my husband out of work, my college son (who is an artist) made a beautiful dollhouse for my daughter. I’ll never forget that gift!! You know what the 3 year old had to say? “Where are the stairs?” So, I think this year he’s adding stairs and some lighting. lol

Last year I gave my mom and mother-in-law make-up bags with a cute sepia picture of the kids. I love photo gifts! I’ve also given bookmarks with photos, and sometimes I order photo notecards in packages of 12 then mix them up so that each person gets 3 or 4 of each picture. My mom writes a lot of notes, so she appreciates those.

We also like to give personalized grandkid stuff to the grandparents at Christmas. Last year we made DVD slide shows of a whole year of our kids with video clips and photos, and set it to fun music. Needless to say , it was a HUGE hit!

Last year, I made felt play food for my niece. It was fun to make, safe for her and no fear of lead paint and such. Now I want to make some for myself. :)

Yay! My favorite gift idea from years past was when my dh came home from his 1st deployment right b/f Christmas. I bought him a HUGE box of “fun” food…things he did not have there like Goobers (the jelly & pb mix) and beef jerky and nutella. He LOVED it! :)

    Great give-away! Thanks, Kimberly.

I’m giving one of my favorite gifts ever this year. I wrote a post a few months ago about my mom who is paralyzed from contracting polio as a child. The Lord has provided a lot of comfort through piano playing, and now, she is teaching my son to play… very special. I took a picture of her and my son at the piano for the post. I had that picture printed as a 16 x 20 and framed for her gift. Here’s a link to the post and pic. http://homeschooldawn.blogspot.com/2008/12/legacy.html

One of my favorite gifts was for the specialists who worked with my child who has autism. I found a necklace or bracelet for each of them w/ a starfish charm to give them with a bookmark we made, signed by my child, with the starfish parable (Made a difference to that one!) on it. “Thanks for making a difference in me,” was our inscription.

This year we’re giving our nieces and nephews savings bonds for college. It’s not cheap, but the savings bonds will double in value by the time they go to college. And I know their parents will be thrilled! One practical gift we’re giving my FIL this year is an emergency car jumpstarter. It’s called “Porta-Jump”. It’s $20 at Target. Forget the jumper cables. What if there are no other cars around? I’m using Coke Rewards Points and SwagBucks for magazine subscriptions for several people this year. Merry Christmas!

We have this very special older couple that have “adopted” my children as grandchildren. This couple was never able to have children and while my husband was pastoring his first church we fell in love with this couple. Now, after six years we couldn’t imagine life without them. For Christmas I am making persnalized sweatshirts that say, “Loved like a Grandma by….” and “Loved like a Grandpa by…” and then putting all of my children’s names on the shirt as well. I am super excited about this gift and can’t wait to give it to them!

The past 4 years I have made some sort of scrapbook from the year for my husband. It made me feel really good last month when he said “You’re making me another scrapbook for Christmas, aren’t you?” Yea!! The time and effort is worth it. I know we love looking at them now and it will be even more special in the years after our kids have moved on.

    Hi Kimberly,
Love the idea – in fact I always give photo gifts, too, because that’s my business! People LOVE photo gifts and now the many aren’t printing anymore, the jpgs just sit captive on the hard drive.

    (1) I make custom digital scrapbooking books, cards, calendars, posters. . . . they bring tears to eyes!

    (2) We’ve also decided that due to the economy right now, it’s a good idea to support home based businesses. So, rather than support the stores and “black Friday”… I’m supporting my friends who have business – that’s a great way for us to help each other rather than the “stores.” Blessings to you! Kelly

Hi! I am going to make Amish Friendship Bread (more like a coffee cake!) for gifts. I also like to pick up pretty Christmas ornaments at Cracker Barrel – they are usually very reasonably priced and neat! They will even wrap them for free (at least they used to – I usually only make it in at Christmas time!) :) Blessings – Kelly
