Our girls enjoy donating their hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides wigs to underprivileged children who suffer long term hair loss due to any diagnosis. What a great opportunity. We have hair, they need hair. A perfect fit.
Amber (13) was our most recent to donate her 14 inch pony tail.
I’m the hair cutter at our house, so it’s always nerve racking when it’s time to cut off that much hair. Knowing that it is going to be put to good use makes it easier to cut it off.
Have you or your kids ever donated to Locks of Love?

Love your site. I love Locks for Love. I grow mine out and cut it and grow it again. Someone once joked with me that I run hair farm. I have one girl and she is growing her hair with me this time. We have two more inches to go. I am also the hair cutter in the family so I know that feeling. Lucky me I have mainly boys that aren’t picky
Keep up the awesome blog work

no we haven’t. Mainly because our little girls are 5 and 1 and they usually do not really “grow” hair until the age of 2 – 21/2 years old. ALL of our children were little baldies!
I thin though that the boys had an advantage since they do not grow long hair. Our baby is 19 months and still has NO hair! She still looks like she is 10 months old…just really tall!
I thin this is a wonderful cause! Maybe I will do this in the future with our girls!

My 3 daughters have all donated and it’s been a very positive experience. I admire you for cutting your daughter’s hair. I cut my 5 sons’ hair…but I only know one cut….a marine type cut!

Cutting girls hair isn’t bad, but I’ve learned to give myself extra room. I always end up needing to keep trimming to get it even, so it usually ends up shorter than I think.

My DD donated 2 summers ago. We all like to do it that way here to.

You cut your teenage daughter’s hair? And you did a good job? Why am I not surprised
Locks of Love is a terrific organization!

My teenage daughter is amazing. One of my most favorite people and a wonderful friend. She’s also very forgiving.

We have never donated but we will soon! Our oldest is currently growing out her hair because she wants to donate it.
The new hair cut is so pretty! Great job!

Wow! You did a great job with her hair!!

My husband and I have both donated our hair, as has my niece. My husband had such beautiful wavy thick black hair when it was long – women always told him that they were jealous of his hair! I’m sure it made a beautiful wig for someone.

I wish I could grow my hair that long! It just stops at about my shoulders
My SIL donates hers every year, so I’m hopeful that my daughter will be able to do the same when she gets older (they have very similar hair).
Great job on the hair cut, I’m afraid to cut my DD’s

I donated my hair 2 years ago. I plan to do it again when the weather gets warmer. My two oldest daughters want to do it also. So we’re letting our hair grow out.

Hey! Yes, Emily donated to Locks of Love about 3 years ago. She’s kept her hair shorter ever since. Much easier for her to take care of.
Great job on the haircut!
Hope you are feeling well.

What a sweet thing for your daughter to do.Her hair looks so full of body shorter. You did a great job!

I’m proud of your daughters! Way to go.
Yes, I donated once, but learned at the hairdressers that the hair needs to be a certain length from the **nape** of the neck, not the crown of the head. At the time it was ten inches, and now I think they ask for eight. I have enough to donate eight right now, but would like to grow it a little longer first so that I still have enough to pull what’s left out of the way.
Blessings!

Every few years, my daughter and I donate. Amber’s short cut looks really cute. I’m sure it will take some getting use to for all of you.

yes, I love doing that too!! I love to grow my hair long, and then chop it off, and then start it all over again!! My oldest keeps saying she wants to do it too…. but she never lasts long enough to get her hair long enough!

So far, it’s just been me donating, and I do so after every pregnancy when my hair has really grown. I’m so thankful they’ve changed their guidelines and you can donate less. Kudos Amber!

My 13 year old daughter has donated twice (10+ inches each time) and one of my older daughters has donated, as well. I think it’s GREAT!

My daughter and I have donated our hair to Locks of Love several times and are getting ready to do it again soon. You did a great job on her hair, I love it! I was not blessed with those type of skills, so thank goodness for me, the salons in our area cut our hair for free if we are donating that day.

I’ve donated 4 times and am getting ready to cut again. It’s hard to finally go ahead and cut it when it comes time but I try to do it every 2 years.

Aww, she is such a pretty little thing. What a sweet gesture for her to make. I have really curly hair and never grow it long enough to donate. It drives me insane before it gets too long because it has a mind of its own!!

Emily (9) donated hers two years ago. It is almost down to her waist again and she wants it all cut off again, but I love it long–We’re still in negotiations!

I would love to do something like this. My daughter’s hair is past her bum and she wants it cut after graduation (we live in Canada and they graduate after Senior kindergarden). I will look into this.
