Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class

This giveaway in now closed.

I gave our kids the option to participate in the worship guitar class if they wished.  Matthew (10) was the only one who initially wanted to try.  However after a few lessons, when our older girls Kaitlin (12) and Amber (13) saw that he was able to play a few worship songs all on his own, they decided that they were interested after all.  :)

Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class enables you or your children (10 and up) to learn to play worship music at home.  Worship Guitar is a series of four DVD’s that build upon each other and teach the student in a progressive manner to play worship songs.  Our family was given a copy of the first DVD in order to write this review.

The DVD begins with introducing the parts of the guitar and some basics of strumming and holding the guitar.  In each of the 7 subsequent lessons the child learns one to two new chords and/or a new strumming pattern and by the end of each lesson they are able to play a new song.

The lessons build upon each other using the chords and strumming patterns learned in previous lessons to play more and more complex songs.  Everything is clearly explained and shown on the DVD so the kids were able to learn to play simply and easily.  You may view an excerpt of the first lesson here.

Our children had great success with this program.  They were motivated and able to learn on their own and enjoyed practicing the songs that the DVD’s introduced.  They especially enjoyed being able to play while others were singing.

Jean Welles also offers a Worship Guitar Class for Kids ages 5-9.

Now the great news.  You do not need to take my word about Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class.  One reader will win one of the Jean Welles DVDs.  The winner will be able to choose either the first DVD in the Worship Guitar series ($24.95) or the Worship Guitar Class for Kids ($29.95).

What a fun way to learn an instrument! My oldest is 8 so the younger level would work for us!

I have a post up today on worship and show some pics of my husband playing the guitar in our family worship. It’s kind of funny because when we met he was leading worship in the college/career SS class we were part of. I had been playing the guitar for a few years and that gave us something in common. We don’t have a worship band at church, but sing mostly hymns with Psalms and accompanied by the piano. When we do worship at home we’ve been teaching our kids hymns and we sing them without instruments. I asked him one time recently why he never gets out his guitar for our time of worship at home, so he started doing it. The kids love it and my oldest son who is 10 would probably love to learn. He already takes piano and has an interest in music. My husband never had music lessons. He’s one of those freaks of nature that can just play any musical instrument. He just figures them out. Anyway, I’m really glad that he’s playing his guitar for us during family worship now. He’s learning to accompany hymns, too.

My oldest son got a guitar for Christmas and we would love something like this to help him along. He already likes to play on the piano some simple songs for our family worship but really wants to learn the guitar. I think that first DVD sounds perfect.

My still-home kids are 10, 11, 12, and 14, so I would take the older version. Music has always been important in our home, but 2 of this batch have not yet found their musical niche. This might be a real blessing for one or both of them!

Althought the regular course sounds great, I think I would go by the age recommendation and get the Kids one for my five year old. He is very anxious to learn to play the guitar. I’ve been eyeing this video series. I would love to win one!

Was I supposed to write something clever? We’re fresh out of clever today :P

The majority of the kids are under 10 (5 outta 7). So I lean that way :)

It would be great for my husband and son to learn to play together and so we could all sing together at devotions. The first DVD in the Worship Guitar series would work great for us. Thanks
