Not Me Monday: Mud Eggs and Snails

What is a “Not Me” post?  A “not me” post is where you get the courage to admit your faults by being allowed to deny them.

As I was searching the kitchen for some chocolate tidying up in the kitchen one evening, I did not find the jar of peanut butter put away in the cabinet with the peanut butter covered knife still in it.

Nicholas (1) did not spill a whole bowl of blue Easter egg dye onto his lap effectively dyeing his leg rather than the eggs.

Since our children are  beginning to speak to each other in Koine Greek and I have only a basic knowledge of Greek, I’m not at all concerned about them being able to talk to each other and Mark and I not being able to understand what they are saying.

The motivation for eating lunch and dinner out on the deck for the past week and a half has not been to avoid having to sweep and vacuum the floor under the dining table. We really just want to enjoy the outdoors, honest!

Even though our dining table has been used more for school planning (I’m selecting and purchasing our books for our next school year)  than eating recently, Colby (3) did not think it would be a good idea to put all of his “eggs”, otherwise known as mud balls on the table top.

While eating out on the deck we are not entertained by watching water snails slither around their bowl on the deck rail and we certainly did not discover that they do a “potty dance” before relieving themselves while at the dinner table.

When Amber gave Nicholas (now 2) one of the candles from his birthday cake so he could lick the frosting he did not take a bite of the candle.

I did not find a pair of dirty underwear and socks in the clean towel cupboard because my 8 year old was just too tired to put them in the hamper.

Your mud balls remind me of the rocks that my daughter who is almost 3 leaves everywhere. I think I find at least one in the washing machine everytime I do laundry.

I did NOT use my broom to sweep the crumbs off the kitchen table as I was sweeping the floor. And I did NOT think of you & this series as I did it.

I loved your post. After arriving home from a 24 hour visit to another county, I opened the refrig to make myself some lunch, only to find that in my absence, my 3 daughters put all of the food from the past 24 hours, away in the refrig in the original serving bowls with the serving utensils still ‘attached.’ Upon my questioning, they replied that they couldn’t believe that I hadn’t thought of it! It was so much more efficient than ‘my way.’

When I mentioned your comment my 10 yo son informed me that they are pond snails. ?? The kids find them in the creek behind our house and enjoy keeping them in a bowl on our deck.

    I love it!

What a great idea to eat outside and save myself from sweeping all day long! I’ll be feeding the birds and that’s good, right?

I should be ordering next year’s curriculum too, but I’m so overwhelmed and nervous. I have several things on my plate right now (hence the lack of blogging) and I don’t want to “just order” stuff. I want to focus and make sound judgements. It’s my oldest’s first-grade year next year!

That is exactly the process that I’m in the middle of… making a plan, knowing where we are going, then ordering accordingly.

Congrats on being a first grade teacher!!

I’m staring to plan next year as well. I’ve made my list and now I’m researching. I noticed the Mystery of History in your picture. That’s one of the things I’m considering. How do you like it?

    Planning is almost finished!

For history this year I will be using Sonlight Core 1 and 6 (both world history 1 of 2 years) and incorporating MOH year 1 and 2 with that. I’m working in MOH in order to cover the Biblical and more spiritual events that I wish Sonlight didn’t gloss over and/or skip (at least in Core 1, I’ve not seen Core 6 yet).

I wrote a review of MOH. One thing that I neglected to mention in my MOH review is that, compared to what we are used to studying in history the amount of material seems light unless you were to include some of the optional resources that they list.

All of that said, Mystery of History would probably be what we would use if Sonlight weren’t such a good fit for our family.

If you have more specific questions feel free to ask.
