I did not inadvertently spill some water on the keyboard of our family’s laptop causing the ‘t’ and the ‘y’ keys to short out and thus making it impossible to sign into the computer. (Do you think that if I say that often enough that it really will not have happened and that my ‘t’ and ‘y’ keys will miraculously come back to life? “I did not, I did not, I did not, I…”)
We do not have a blue tarp on our roof to prevent water from leaking into our family room whenever it rains.
It did not take me two days to realize that our dryer was no longer drying. The process did not go something like this. “Hm, I must have forgotten to start the dryer.” hours later, “I thought I started the dryer, but must have forgotten to push the start button.” hours later, “Maybe I didn’t set the timer for long enough.” hours later, “Maybe one of the kids switched the laundry for me and forgot to start the dryer.” the next day, “Maybe the outside vent needs to be cleaned out.” later, “I think that something may be wrong with the dryer, let me start it one more time to be sure.” “Yes, something is wrong with the dryer, but maybe it will work this time.” later, “Hm, dryer isn’t working at all, too bad it’s now storming outside.”
Our list is longer than this, but you get the idea.
I’m not now going to remind you that if you shop through the links on Raising Olives (amazon.com, Vision Forum, Christian books.com, etc. – that are in the sidebars and within some of the posts) you will get the same prices that you normally would, but our family will earn a small commission on your purchase. No, I’m not going to ask you to do that, but thank you if you decide to do it on your own.

Love it! Sorry about all your frustrations though. I hope you’ll be able to get things fixed, replaced, or whatever you have to do to get them back up.

Thanks Kathi. The good thing is that this type of thing honestly doesn’t bother me. It’s a little inconvenient, but that’s not what makes me worry. That’s hubby’s job.
I worry about and struggle with relationships, people and friends. I wish I saw those things as clearly as my husband does.

Not that I would ever spill a smoothie on my keyboard or anything… but if that did happen I know for a fact that you can cut and paste the letters you need until your keyboard gets repaired

I once dropped my cell phone in water. It was in the breast pocket of my shirt, and I was leaning over to clean out a cloth diaper…. Anyhow, in spite of trying to dry it out, it quit working.
Fast forward 7 or 8 months. My husband let it sit for the better part of those months open. It now works. It won’t ring, but still vibrates. So now we have a spare phone in case we need it!
I do NOT carry cell phones in said pocket anymore. Really. Honest. I don’t!!!!
So maybe if you take those keys off and let them dry out very, very well (for a week, or let one of the older kids use a blow dryer) they just maybe might possibly have a remote chance of working again…

I’m praying for 7-8 days rather than months. It could happen, I hope.

I think if we hadn’t been so impatient to make the phone work, 7-8 days in front of a heating vent might have done the trick. When it wouldn’t work, we got a new phone, because we were just moving and wouldn’t have a phone or Internet at the new house for a week, and who can survive in this world without at least 1 form of communication???

That sounds about like my brain process.

I recently found your blog and I just wanted to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed reading and looking through your archives. I agree with your philosophy on parenting and home schooling and am eager to learn many new things from a mama who has a bit more experience on me. I am mother to 4 lively boys (6, 5, 4 and 2) and a 15 month girl and am currently 6 days overdue with another girl. You’ve been such an encouragement to me. I loved your post entitled “Pregnancy is Hard”. It was just what I needed.
So anyway thanks for blogging and sharing your wisdom with others.

Sounds like we have similar woes going on in our households. I know our due dates are very close, mine being July 15th. So, I know you are probably not feeling super energized through all of this. My dryer just went out as well. We are also in the middle of a huge move, and I have almost nothing to wear as only a few things fit at this stage of pregnancy anyway. I have been washing clothes and hanging things all over the house to drip dry. Once we get moved we will have a new dryer. Hang in there.
We’re on the final stretch of these pregnancies now. I just have to remind myself of the sweet joy that is around the corner with a new baby.

Yes, our due dates are close. I think that I’m asking Mark or the kids, “How much longer do I have now?” about every 2 hours. I’m glad that everyone around here humors me.

OK, only because this hits dangerously close to home when our dryer caught on fire back in Feb, I am going to strongly suggest that you have it repaired, if it is less than 10 or 15 years old. Otherwise plan to have it replaced. Do not use that dryer until it is is repaired. Do not try to keep using it. Seriously. Granted, that was a REALLY bad week for me (the dryer was the last very eventful thing that week), but it’s something I learned from and don’t joke about.
On a lighter side, of course, I can totally relate to thinking I forgot to turn it on or one of the kids opened it and stopped the motor. I’ve had to rewash clothes because we forgot to start the dryer. Arg. I hope it ges fixed soon and that your weather is nice enough to hang dry for a while.

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn’t really thought of that. Yikes!

Speaking of dropping cell phones into water, I’m not going to tell you why we had a cell phone nicknamed The Poop Phone for several months. Fortunately we were able to semi-retire it and use it only as an emergency backup.
On a separate note, I learned last week that it’s very easy to replace the keyboard on a laptop, and you can often pick one up for less than $20 on ebay.

And I’m not going to tell you about how I’ve not been tweeting about how my husband did not jump into the pool to help one of our children, not while he was wearing an iPhone that was only 1.5 weeks old…no we won’t go there. Hope your dryer gets fixed soon. We fixed ours using repairclinic.com – I posted about it on my blog somewhere… :-/ Blessings!
