ERGObaby Carrier Giveaway and Review

This giveaway is now closed.  Congratulations to Andrea Toman for winning an ERGObaby Carrier!

I am happy and proud to describe myself as a baby-wearing mom.   A lot has been written about the benefits of wearing your baby  (Benefits of Baby Wearing from LLL and 10 Reasons to Wear Your Baby)  and my desire was to be a ‘baby-wearer’ from the time my first was born, so I dutifully asked for and received a baby carrier and tried to wear my sweet baby from the beginning.

While I did use the baby carrier a lot, but I would not have classified myself as a baby wearer because that first carrier and others that followed, (you know the ones that you find at the local baby stores) just weren’t comfortable enough to allow me to wear my baby for long periods of time day-in and day-out.

8 1/2 months pregnant wearing 2 year old Nick

That continued until I was expecting our 8th baby and my mom purchased me an ERGObaby carrier.  I was 7 1/2 months pregnant when I first wore one of my children in the ERGO and Savannah (then 16 months old) spent 2 1/2 happy hours while we shopped.  No tired shoulders or sore neck, just a completely content little girl who enjoyed being so close to her mommy and a mommy who had discovered that baby wearing could be comfortable.

What is an ERGObaby Carrier?

An ERGObaby carrier is a soft frame baby carrier designed for use with babies with good head control (4-5 months) up to children around 40 pounds. (ERGO does provide an infant insert that enables you to wear your baby from birth through 4-5 months.  I will be trying that accessory and telling you about it after our little one is born in July.)

The carrier has been tested safe up to 90 pounds, so really it’s for as long as both you and your baby are happy using it.  We still wear our 3 1/2 year old and our 2 year old and yes, I am still wearing them even though I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant.  However, I might encourage them to ask one of their siblings or their daddy to “ERGO” them.

The ERGO is designed to enable you to carry your baby in three different positions  front, back  or hip carry.

The ERGO is also equipped with a sleeping hood that supports the baby’s head when they are sleeping.  Trust me, this is a wonderful and important feature, because the ERGO is one of our boys favorite places to nap when we are on the go.

What makes an ERGO different?

The ERGO was different from the other carriers that I had used in that the weight of the baby is carried on your waist, not your shoulders, back or neck.  This is amazingly comfortable and Mark and I have carried our babies on 6 mile hikes over rocky terrain quite comfortably.

In whatever position you are wearing your baby, the baby faces you and conforms to the shape of your body.   This not only makes the ERGO more comfortable, it also allows you to interact with your baby.  Even when I’m wearing one of our boys in the back carry position (and can’t see their face) the interaction is sweet, they will rub my back, ask me to rub their legs and point out different items of interest as we walk along.  And of course, when they are tired they will lean their head up against my back and go to sleep.

“The ergonomic design supports a correct sitting position for the baby’s hip, pelvis and spine growth. It disperses most of the baby’s weight between the hips and thighs and helps prevent compression of the spine.”  This is much better for the babies growth and development than other carriers that dangle babies by their crotch.

Why we love our ERGO.

Need I say anything more? Our two youngest children, whom we call our ‘ERGO babies’, have had this reaction nearly every time we pull out our ERGO.  Until just before his third birthday Colby would bring me the ERGO or ask me to “ERGO” him during that” tough-for-little-kids-time-of-day” while mom is getting dinner ready.

After 7 children I was  finally a baby-wearing mom and our family has been reaping the benefits ever since. We no longer use our stroller, or have to leave a store because the baby is screaming.  Our babies have been much more portable and adaptable to going and doing  in different places at different times.  Because they are able to comfortably nap in the ERGO it’s much easier to have a more flexible schedule without having a miserable little one.

We even used the ERGO to train one of our boys to sit still during church.  From the time he was just a few months old we would simply put him in the ERGO at the beginning of the service and our hyper active, overly stimulated little one would calm down and eventually take his morning nap in the ERGO.

Isn't it beautiful?

As a mom of soon-to-be 10, there are very few things that I consider “necessary”, a good, quality baby carrier is one of those things, don’t settle for less, baby wearing doesn’t have to be painful or uncomfortable. It really is worth it to find a baby wearing product that you love, for our family the ERGO is one of those products.

Buy an ERGObaby Carrier.

You may purchase an ERGObaby carrier from between $105 and $148 at ERGObaby carrier.com.

Don’t forget to check out their infant inserts if you want to use it with a baby younger than 4 or 5 months, their practical front pouch, perfect for camera, keys and cell phone and other accessories!

Win an ERGObaby Carrier.

I’m thrilled that ERGObaby has offered to give one of my readers their very own ERGObaby carrier.  Our family LOVES this carrier, we recommend it all the time and we firmly believe that it’s completely worth the investment.

I’ve got to get one of those. I want to be a baby carrying mom, but could never do it with our old Baby Bjorn. My shoulders always hurt too bad. I will be getting one of these before we have our next. If you can do it 8 months pregnant, then it must be better than the usual carriers!

I am expecting our 3rd child, due July 16th, I have not ever worn my babies, but I would like to try it, especially with our middle child, who is now 20 months old it will give him extra closeness with us as we are all getting used to our new baby!

OOh I try to be a baby wearing mama but haven’t really succeeded, maybe this carrier would do it for me as it did for you. I only have 4 children 4 and under right now but I could use it for my 3 month old or my 18 month old and any future babies the Lord has planned.

Hrm, I am done making babies now, my youngest is 18mo. Both of my boys were 22lbs at 6mo so they were heavy very early. I did try to wear them but had injured my back when my oldest was 2mo old so nothing could make me comfortable. I wonder if this carrier would have been better.
I do have a baby niece though who might appreciate it.

I wore my first in a typical storebought carrier. Good for moments when I needed to be hands-free, but not great on the back for longer periods.

My second was almost always in a sling. She was colicky, and it was the only thing that kept her chilled…and it was REALLY effective at doing that. It was more comfortable and much more portable than the front carrier I had used previously, but still strained my neck/shoulder after long periods.

With my 3rd (just 5 days old) I expect to use some sort of carrier, and I was just looking into the Ergo thinking that it made sense with my 21-month old as well as the new babe. I’m glad to read your review…super helpful!

I have wanted an Ergo for a few babies now, but after all that I have invested in carriers that have gotten rave reviews I just can’t see spending the money on one only to discover that I *don’t* like it! I would feel truly blessed to win one, and if by some chance I didn’t like it I could always share it as a gift to a friend… Thanks for your honest reviews, Kim, and thanks also to Ergo for letting you give a carrier away! ; ) I know whoever wins will be blessed!

My adventures in babywearing came with trying many different carriers out and being subject to so many different comments from others. With my first we tried the hotsling and he hated it. Maybe it squished his head too much. I’m not sure. We finally settled on the Ultimate Baby Wrap which is similar to the maya wrap. With our second baby, I bought a beautiful sling that we have absolutely adored. He loves it. He can lay and sleep cocooned in or he can sit up and look out. He is in it everywhere we go. I am in love with the ergo but cannot justify getting one right now after spending $100 on the sling!!! Maybe next baby?! It is so lightweight and breathable. I REALLY want one for our next baby!!! Living in a community that is very mainstream, car seats e babies being worn. Carried around in car seats is more the typical sight! So when I go out places I either get, “Wow! That’s really cool. I wish they had those when I had kids,” or “Is that a baby in there?” But then sometimes I get comments like, “That child will never learn to walk with you carrying it all over the place,” or “That baby is obviously spoiled.” I see babywearing as not only a benefit for my baby and I, but also for my community. It opens doors to speak to people that I may not otherwise have the chance and it shows people the bonding that can happen when babies are more involved in the things you do each day. Often people tell me how smart my children look/are and how and I attribute it all to wearing them as babies and early toddlers.

I have tried several baby carries and the one I’ve finally liked enough to use a lot was my Moby Wrap. I would love to try the Ergo! It looks easy and fast, which is one downfall to the Moby- it takes time to put on.

Oh, I’ve wanted one of these for YEARS! I’ve tried two cheapy carriers that I got at consignment that were just awful- painful to wear. I’ve always eyed Ergos and wished for one- Seriously, I think I’m on the verge of coveting! I’ve recently had our 4th baby (Lyra is 2 1/2 months old) and this carrier would be such a blessing to me- we’re going to visit Luray Caverns in July and going shell hunting at the beach in August- both times where I will need to carry her! We’d use it in the fall too when we go on some homeschool field trips. I really hope I win!

I have a sleepy wrap (similar to the moby) for my daughter (3 months) and I love how I can go shopping with her and not have to fool with the carseat/stroller. It is a little time consuming to put on and take off (and kinda hot in the summer) and I would really like to try an ergo. I think it would be wonderful for church use as well. =)

When I was pregnant with my second, I made a ring sling which I LOVE. I have super-sized children, so the sling was amazing to help me hold them.

A friend of mine’s husband just lost his job and has wanted a ERGO for a LONG time. She’s got cancer and can’t hold her 1 year old for long periods of time, so if I won, this would be going to her!

I have always heard such wonderful things about the ergo baby carrier! I would love to have one, but the price has held me back. Right now my boys are approaching 20 months and 8 months and I have used a few different carriers with them. When I was pregnant with my first I bought a Boppy sling from the store, but it was just not working out once he was born, it was so bulky and it felt odd when I had it on, not to mention my little boy just hated being in the position it held him in. When he was one month old we got a sleepy wrap and I have really loved that. We use it around the house and he also napped well in it when he was really little. I sometimes would use it for walks, but in the summer heat it is just too much to have something wrapped around your body plus a hot baby right up against you! Also, I always had to put the wrap on first if we were going out because I didn’t want to be standing there in the parking lot of a store wrapping the wrap around me. I would love to have something a little easier to work with for going out places. We also have a snugli backpack which my husband sometimes uses with our littlest one, but it hurts my back! When I was pregnant with my second son a friend on ours made me a sling and I have been using that with him (although my older one sometimes asked to be carried in it as well) now that I can carry him on my hip with it.

Something that I really would like about the ergo is that I would be able to carry the boys on my back! That would be really nice and I have always wanted a carrier that would do that (I actually think I could with my wrap, but I haven’t figured it out yet 🙂

Thanks for the opportunity to enter a great giveaway!

The one thing that I really want to get for baby #5 is an Ergo. I have heard SO many good things about the Ergo carriers. Would love to win your contest!

I started carrying my baby with a home-ade sling, a really long piece of cloth with semi-intricate tying methods(can’t remember the name) and really had to do it while I lived in guatemala with my 2 month old until he was 1 year. I loved the security of having him right there as I did things, I didn’t have to keep mental tabs on him.

My little girl is 20 months, 26 pounds. I just bought an ERGObaby last month from HeavenlyHold.com. I LOVE it. I did not like wearing her around in the carrier we bought at Target because her thighs were chunky and we were both uncomfortable. I bought a few wraps and they were fine for awhile but did not give me, or her, the support we needed for a long outing.
I am entering this contest hoping to win one for my SIL and her 5 month old. We give them as many hand-me-down as we can however there is NO way I am parting with my carrier for a long time!

My experience is very similar to yours. I wore my baby hiking and doing active things where a stroller wouldn’t work. I wore my baby during the dinner-making hour when nothing else would work. I tried slings, but could never get me or the baby comfortable. I tried various other brands of front packs, and loved the Bjorn, as it was the best and most workable for me. But, like you, I couldn’t stand it for more than an hour or two, as my shoulders and low back would ache.
I’m on baby #6, and would love to wear him more and more.

When we adopted our oldest, we knew how important it was to have him close for attachment reasons, so we bought a carrier… it was terrible. I had to contort in awful ways to get him into it, then it wasn’t comfortable for either of us. Sadly, our second (also adopted) baby didn’t get to be worn either because of that bad experience. With our third (a foster child), we borrowed an ergo from one friend and a good sling from another and it made a HUGE difference!! We would love to have an Ergo of our own.

I just purchased a wrap for our 1 1/2 year old and new baby due in the fall too! 🙂 I’m kind of kicking myself about not knowing about the Ergo sooner, but have read sooo much good about them lately! It is a bit taxing to wear my toddler in the wrap with my tummy growing bigger now. I’ve drooled over an Ergo at CottonBabies when I was in there. But it was all I could do to convince hubby to let me spend the $$ on a Wombfruit wrap. Which I TOTALLY love! But with our 6th hitting that 20lb mark, I’m thinking we should find something a little stronger. 🙂

I LOVE wearing my baby!!! I only discovered baby-wearing on our 5th & 6th babies.

We are big baby wearers around here too (DH too)! We prefer to wear our babies rather than tote them in their car seat or stroller and they seem to be happier that way too! I do not have an Ergo though, and would LOVE to try it as it seems like carrying a baby on my back would be so much easier for getting work done. I’ve heard only fantastic things for this carrier.

I had hoped I would be able to “wear” my 19 month old daughter for longer, but I wasn’t sure which carrier would be best for us. I had a Hotsling that we used for a few months but it got to be too painful for my shoulder. I would love to try an Ergo with our son who is due 11/1. It sounds like it would be perfect for us.

I have tried many baby carriers and used a sling a lot with one of my children. My last pregnancy left me with a tender spot on my back.I was no able to carry my baby in my sling or front carrier.I am expecting(my sixth)again and bought a beco.It too left me with a sore back and my 13 month old did not enjoy the ride. I love attachmnet parenting and baby wearing is a biggie. I would love a carrier that will not strian my back. Sounds like ERGO is the one. Thanks for offering this great gift.

I tried a wrap once with my daughter when she was about 10 months and she hated it. We had a snugli for her but the weight was killing my back within 15 minutes of wear by the time she was 2 or 3 months old. Used it again with my son until about 3 months. I usually after that carried my diaper bag over my shoulder and would sit them on the diaper bag on my hip to help hold them so my arms weren’t holding all their weight. When they got too big for that I had to have them in the stroller. When my son was too big, they both went in a double stroller. I thought I’ll never find something I can carry them in after 3 months old. 🙁 Then I heard about the ERGO. From what I hear, it might be just the thing I need. I love to hold my babies. If I never had to put them in a stroller I’d be tickled pink! My 22 month old is a super snuggle-bug and would adore being carried.

I just found your website a few days ago, and I love it! We have 5 going on 6 this Aug, and I have used a ring sling for all my babies. I bought a wrap, and while my daughters can use it, it is not the easiest to get on and off. And my ring sling can get quite heavy with a 25 lb baby and 8 months pregnant! I would LOVE an Ergo baby carrier so that I can carry my 1 yo ds on my back while I go about my work. I, like you, will have 3 babies in 2.5 years which has made me wonder if I should continue to let the Lord plan our family. But after reading your blog, I have been leaning more toward trusting the Lord for all my needs. I am on this earth to serve Him alone. Thanks for your blog.

After having a Baby Bjorn (which was cream of the crop when Zachary was born) and a mei tei– and neither of them really being a right “fit” for us–I was so happy when I was visiting my friend and she let me wear Nathan in her Ergo– it is AMAZING– I really wouldn’t have beleived it if I had not tried it on myself– It gives you NOOOOOO shoulder or back strain– it is amazing!! I could probably carry STEPHEN in it– and not feel the discomfort!!

I have also heard from many that Ergo is very daddy friendly too!!

I’ve been wearing my babies (though not daily) since I had my third daughter. At first I started with ring slings with heavy padding. But the padding tended to ride up on my neck, instead of staying on my shoulder. Eventually I discovered that unpadded slings worked better for me. With my 7th baby, we started using a Mei Tai, as well as a Moby wrap, and I found those very handy for times I wanted to be sure baby was totally hands-free.

I’ve never used an Ergo, but I’ve heard so much about them!

My baby wearing experience… ah. well. Like you, those awful little infantino, (etc) type carriers made my shoulders and back SO sore! My eldest always wanted to be held, and she was happy when I had her in the front pack. She’d fall asleep in there and everything. But mama was terrible uncomfortable! Second baby, wasn’t “in need” as much for wearing and walked at 9 months, so he wasn’t immobile for very long! But, wow. if I had an ERGO now??? He’d be in it when I needed to go places, where he wanted to be carried, but preggo mama can’t do it for long! Wonderful!

I haven’t found a baby carrier that is comfortable with my short frame. I am short waisted and it seems they always droop over my rumpus or lower, and when I adjust them they dig into my neck and I feel like a hunchback trying to compensate. I would be willing to try this though

I also wanted to comment that I have a LACK-there-of issue with baby wearing. I did not “wear” my daughter at all, then I got a sling for five dollars at a thrift store when my son was 6 months old, so I “wore” him from 6 months to about a year and a half. If the Lord chooses to bless me with more, then I would LOVE to wear them from the very beginning.

I got one for my last baby (my 5th), oh, how I wish i had had one 5 babies ago!!

I was told by friends that I could just wrap my newborn in a receiving blanket and place him on my chest “froggy” style. I wore my little guy from birth and he and I loved it! Once he got sqirmy, but was too small still to straddle both his legs, a lady at my cloth diaper store suggested letting him just hang one leg out and that did the trick! He was happy again! Now he’s 2 yrs. old and weighs 30 lbs. and will still ride on the front, facing me 🙂

If I win one I will gift it to my best friend who is adopting!! She bought me mine, so I’ll be able to give her one!

I never thought I’d see a baby/child carrier rated up to 90 pounds! When we adopted our son from China 3 years ago I found a “Hip Hammock” and they are good up to about 35 pounds (but a give shoulder strain after too long). We needed something to carry our son around and help him bond and feel safe.

Now, 3 years later, he’s bonded well, but has been diagnosed with autism, and has difficulty feeling safe in new or crowded situations. At 6 years old, he’s too big for the old carrier, but the ERGO sounds like it could work for us.

All that to say – please pick my name in your drawing! Thanks for sharing about the ERGO. I hope to try it out (hint, hint!).

I am a mommy to two beautiful children, an 8 year old son and a 13 month old daughter. I have “worn” my daughter since birth using our Baby Ka’tan. I still love my baby Ka’tan, but find my daughter is not very comfortable using it like she used to be. My son is involved in many sports (soccer, swimming, football, baseball, basketball.. he’s busy!) and because my daughter is used to being “held” she wants to be up out of her stroller and with me during these events and other outings. I need a carrier that will allow this but also not kill me back in the process! I found the Ergo carrier and am now desperately seraching everywhere for a used one (because I cannot afford a new one at this time!) I search e-bay.. or stalk should I say… I post of Cafe mom, I’ve posted on my work classifieds, I’ve even e-mailed some people selling theirs to see is they would sell it to me for less than the asking price, just so I can have one! To end this “comment” I will finish by saying how amazing you are with your little army, and how much having a Ergo carrier would benefit not only my daughter, but myself as I am already heartbroken she is growing up so fast! Thanks! Oh and I will become a fan of yours on facebook once I am at my home computer!

I have 4 ages 7 mo to 7 years. I have used a sling and a bjorn, but neither one has allowed me to carry a child for long periods of time. I am sore after a shopping trip with my small 7 mo old. I have always desired having something for older babies because there are so many times they just want to be held and being left one-handed so I can hold them on my hip really slows productivity down.

I really started baby wearing with our fourth baby. I used a sling and loved the closeness and bonding with my baby. I think an Ergo would be helpful for when I need to do cooking or housework. It seems to me that the sling and Ergo would be good in different ways.

I have never used an Ergo. I would love too. With my first babies we had a fisher price (uncomfortable) carrier. With baby number 5 I discovered the WRAP, and loved it. As she got older I went to a side sling that I made myself. Now she’s almost 2 and needs something more secure. I’ve been eyeing-up those ERGOs:)

I have not been a “baby-wearing mama” thus far, but not for a lack of wanting to be so! I used to use the Bjorn, but after about 30 minutes of it I couldn’t stand the discomfort on my shoulders any longer. I also tried a sling, but was always paranoid the baby would fall out! I’m now expecting my fourth and would love to give this a try and finally get to wear my babies!! You can never get enough closeness! 🙂

My experience with baby wearing is limited to one of those “from the store” baby bjorn rip-offs (very much dislike!) and a Moby wrap (very much like, especially for newborns).

With our fourth daughter due in just a few months, I’d love to win this and try out the ERGO Thanks for the chance!

I am a large person, I know that you said Mark wears it, but I wasn’t sure of his size. I prefer to wear the baby in the front while they are young. I have had trouble with other types of slings, etc. that feel too snug or not safe for the baby. Do you have any idea? Thanks! BTW-You look great 8 1/2 months pregnant!!

I’ve never really “worn” my baby because the front-pack I have, doesn’t allow me to do things around the house without putting the baby in danger…washing dishes, pulling things out of the oven, carry boxes or children. Most times, I only use my current front pack in situations where I don’t or can’t take a stroller. I would really like to be able to wear my baby more!

I am a baby-carrier (can’t do it long enough to be a baby-wear-ier) 🙂 the 2nd time around. My oldest is 25 months and my second is a month old. I carried my first in a chest carrier from day one until he was around 4 months and then in a sling until he was about 8 months. My second is currently using the same chest carrier and has been carried since day one too.

My 2 slings are pretty uncomfortable to wear more than an hour or two… bad shoulder and neck pain with both of them regardless of how they’re adjusted. Both are infantino brand – the chest carrier was picked up for a quarter at Goodwill and the sling was from K-mart. I have been reading about ergo for 2 years and wanted one so bad this go ’round because as much as I love carrying my kids, there comes a certain point where it’s just far too taxing on my body (I’m a petite frame, 5’4″). I had to stop carrying my son at 8 months and he was a small baby – even now at 2 years old, he only weighs 25 lbs. I would have loved carrying him more and I wish I could offer my daughter the same. I haven’t entered any of these online giveaways in over 2 years now but I just couldn’t resist this as I have drooled over the Ergo forever! Thanks!

to win an ergo would be a huge blessing for us and future babies to come.

I bought a sling with my fourth baby and can’t believe I lived without it for the previous three! A friend recently showed my how to wrap my baby, and I loved it even more. I have been eyeing the Ergos, as I’m due in a few months with our seventh, but still have a one year old that likes to be held…A LOT. I can’t carry her front-load with the wrap, and don’t know how to comfortably (safety-wise) carry her on my back. I’m thinking the Ergo is what I need!

I’m a ‘newer’ baby wearing mama. Like you I had tried wearing a baby with the store bought type, but they never fit right, and baby never felt secure. With my 5th child I discovered a wrap. I used a homemade wrap with her, but when she got too heavy for my stretchy wrap I wasn’t sure what to use. I tried another hm wrap, but it was to bulky and not comfortable. I found out later that it was the material I was using. With my current baby #6, I bought a ‘real’ wrap. I like it very much, but I would love an ergo for using out of the house. It’s hard to get a wrap on without draggin on the ground, and I really don’t want my wrap rubbing on the asphalt in a parking lot! So that is where we are at in our baby wearing days 🙂 I pray we are given more children to wear in the future as well, but right now I’m content to stop and snuggle my current little one who is 4 months old. 🙂 Thanks for letting me share our story.

one of our daughters with whom i just spent the last two months, just had her seventh baby. she has been a Maya Wrap(and other wraps) mom since their first baby 11 yrs ago.
i think her husband has one of those heavy and uncomfortable baby backpacks, but they haven’t had anything that she has felt she could carry the baby easily around the house. so, she holds the baby constantly, carrying him when she has things to do. the Maya gets in the way. boy! would i love for her to get one of your carriers just handed to her, which is what i want for her and the baby-and the whole family. they all carry the baby a lot. the next oldest is 19 mos and it sounds like they could have him carried a lot more with this method too. it would be so great for them! thanks for the opportunity for me to ask for a really nice thing for my daughter and her little family. the last 5 wks her husband has been in China with 56 cadets from the Air Force Academy where he teaches Chinese and other Asian subjects, which is why i was there for so long. please consider her for this prize. she is a super, contact parenting, homeschooling, co-sleeping, baby wearing, and loving mother who would benefit greatly.

I’m a mom of four, with #5 on the way. I’ve never had an Ergo carrier but i always wear my babies until they get so big i can’t carry them around anymore or until they are walking on their own and no longer wish to be carried.

i would love to win a ergo carrier because with 4 boys ages 6,4,3,and 20 months and the baby on the way having a carrier makes things so much easier. baby gets to stay close and mom has free hands.

also my youngest is medically fragile, equipment dependent and very snugly. i would love to be able to carry him and the baby together. he’s always been to small for most of the carriers (he has a rare form of dwarfism) but is now about the size of an average 5 month old and fits into more things better.

    thanks for considering us

I would love to be entered! I have been BWing for the last few years, first with my son from about 1 year and then my daughter from birth and I still use my mei tai carrier for her and she’s almost 2! I tried an ergo one time a few months ago and didn’t get the hang of it, we were getting ready to move and needed the money so I just went ahead and sold it and now I’m kicking myself! I’d love to try one again!

Babywearing soothes the savage baby soul, I say. (So does music.) Babywearing allows Mama to get things done while meeting baby’s need for snuggling. I have tried at least a dozen baby carriers and by far my top favs are …. the Ergo and the Moby Wrap. These two are the only ones I can wear at length w/o my body feeling fatigued. I hope, hope, hope I win the Ergo! Unlikely since there will be hundreds of entries! LOL. Off to figure out the other ways to enter. Hee-hee!

I’ve been desperately eying off an ergo, and wondering how to justify the expense to my husband when God finally chooses to bless us with our first child. I can’t even use the reasoning ‘i wont have to buy a stroller/pram’, as my well meaning mother in law will more than likely give us hers, as her own child bearing years have past.

my baby wearing experience would fall in the category of “lack thereof”… my son is now a toddler and although I did try out a few carriers – both a sling when he was a newborn and a carrier for when he was several months old – I only used them each a few times before he outgrew them. Now, I do wish that i had used them more when we were home and out and about and not just for hikes. I have read that the ERGObaby carriers are up to 35+ pounds and are the only carrier you have to buy and I wish I had know about them 2 years ago!! thanks for the opportunity to win.

I absolutely adore baby-wearing. I started with my son seven years ago. Since that time I have been a nanny and childcare provider. I have always worn the babies in my care, to make sure they were soothed and loved just as they would be if they were with their own mothers. My 3 year old was probably the biggest fan of being worn. She loved the be strapped on and part of mommy. We’re expecting our fifth in August. I have heard so many wonderful things about the Ergo. Wish I could afford one. Really hoping this might be the winner. 😉

I used a moby wrap with my little girl (my first, now 13 mo), mostly while vacuuming. Never could figure out how to the it with just enough tightness to be secure yet also comfortable for us both. And I just returned it to the kind soul who lent it to me, since she’s expecting her third in a couple of months. So an ERGO would be lovely. 🙂

I first learned to wear my babies out of necessity. My first baby would NOT let me put her down for anything. She would be content for five minutes max no matter what I did, this included the time she would sleep. So I began to wear her and gained a bit of my life back (the part where you get to wash dishes and do laundry, yeah). However, after three babies I have yet to find a carrier that I love. They all seem to hurt after a while. I would love to give the Ergo a try with our fourth baby on the way!

I was given a baby bjorn (what I THOUGHT was the best baby carrier ever) when my first was born and have had it through 4 babies, but at a certain point they just get too long (and not to mention heavy) on the front, with no option to wear in the back, and I’m tiny. Well I made a woven wrap for my oldest son (unfortunately didn’t know about babywearing with my oldest daughter, who was 6 when our son was born) and I LOVED that thing! In fact, even though I own quite a few more carriers now (no Ergo, tho!), I think that wrap is still me favorite. 2 more babies have lived in it so far…

I would love to try the ERGO. I wore my son in a babiesrus version of the moby wrap (no, it is not up to par – I’ve since tried the moby). While I enjoyed wearing him, I could no longer wear him beginning around 12 months, so I’d like to have a carrier that supports both infants and toddlers.

We have been babywearing for 3 kids (so far). I have tried everything and love the Ergo. Mine has seen better days but is still going strong. The first carrier we had was the Maya wrap then we went to the Ergo. We then went to every carrier under the sun but back to the Ergo.

When I had my first baby I had been trained to teach your baby to be independent at a young age and not to ruin them by spoiling them with your attention. It was tough to do bu I tried my best to do what I had been taught. Now I am pregnant with baby number 4 and I have learned so much. I have learned that you can not spoil a little baby. That they need your touch and to be close to you- and that will only increase your bond and help them as they get bigger. I love baby wearing and am always searching for a carried that will work through the stages and enable me to keep my kids close.

Already we’re juggling strollers(I have a 20 month old as well) and it wold be nice to feel a little more independent when we’re out.

I have 2 boys, both who loved/love to be worn. My oldest is 5 and I started with a Snugli with him. He loved it. I didn’t know much about babywearing, so I just got what was at the store. I moved to a homemade ring sling when he was about a year. I still use that sling for my almost 3 year old second child sometimes. He wants on my back, but I can’t do that iwth a ring sling! I use a homemade mei tei, but that isn’t very comfortable so I rarely use it. I would lvoe to have something better made that will allow me to wear him like he wants and that I could use for baby #3.

I have been using a wrap for the baby and its been working ok but it stretches and he ends up almost falling out so I really need to get something better. 2 of my sisters and my sis in law have ERGOs (and love them) and I have been thinking that I need to get one. Right now price is a big issue so I haven’t got one yet. The idea of trying to get my daughter to sit still in church with one is a good idea so I will definitely keep that in mind when I eventually get one. Thank you for this giveaway. Wendy

Like you, I’ve always wanted to be a baby-wearing mom and with our two boys, I have tried different carriers/slings but with relatively little success. The sling didn’t have enough structure and the baby bjorn ended up being too uncomfortable once our kids hit 20 lbs (which was before 6 months). I’m expecting our third in a few weeks and would love to find something better! Bonus if I could use it to train this baby to sit through church since my husband is the pastor and I’ll have three little ones to handle on my own.

I did not use any carriers with my daughter, as she would scream any time she was put into one (I really only tried a sling and a baby bjorn), but she LOVED to be held at all times. My son, while he might not want to get into the baby bjorn at first, is very content in it, thank goodness!! I tried a wrap and that didn’t go over well with him. Though at not quite 3 months old, I suppose he could like them down the road. Would LOVE to try one of these!!

My 2nd as a very fussy baby. (Continues to be a very irratable, fussy, darling boy!) He would not let me put him down, and didn’t car that I was busy running after his 18 month old brother. I tried slings, Bjorns, peanuts shell, and wraps, but most hurt and I had to switch constantly. It wasn’t until my 3rd did I discover my ERGO. Blessed Ergo!!!! My almost 2yo old daughter and 4yo still LOVE it! I carried her all the time and never used a stroller running around after her brothers. I am now prego with #4 (Praise God!) and will wear my sweet baby as much as I can. I would love another ERGO so my hubby and I can carry at least 2 of them, but BUYing another is a total indulgence. I will stick with my one. (UnLESS I WIN ONE!!!!) Highly, HIGHLY recommend any busy Mama (and we are all busy Mama’s!) to get their ERGO. Worth EVERY penny! Trust me!

I have 3 babies…3 years and younger. I am very busy with my preschool/toddler boys, but my daughter (5 months) wants to be a constant part of the action. I find it VERY difficult to “wear” her in a “standard carry-child contraption” in the process of my day. (I would have to take up yoga for a year before I would be able to even achieve the ability to “harness” up!)
I have heard of the Ergo, but I have never tried one. I can definitely see the benefit to wearing my babies, especially as I have more.
My situation is further aggravated by the fact that I am growing older by the minute. I didn’t start having babies until I was 31, so now at 34…I am feeling the effects! (This is why we should encourage our children to have babies while they are young…not wait until they are 30-something–or 40-something, like myself and my husband! I digress…)
So, in short…I am old, I have never worn a baby in an ERGO and I have lots of babies (at various sizes) with which to practice. I would be the perfect person for gifting of the ERGO…besides, I am shameless and endlessly enthusiastic. (If I could put more exclamation points in this paragraph, without scaring people, I would!!)

I had a wrap that I used with my son when he was very small…birth-about 4-6 weeks. But he grew SO fast he became very heavy to wear using the wrap. Plus it was kind of hard to put together by yourself. I would LOVE to try the Ergo as he is now 12 months and 25lbs. And maybe we can use it for future children too! 🙂

Hello! I stubbled across your blog a couple weeks ago and have really enjoyed reading it. I too have desired to “wear” my babies (I have 3 young children) but have not really found one that is practical. Each one gets uncomfortable or I have to use one hand to hold the baby safely in place. I have tried the traditional backpack, a sling, and a Moby wrap. I have wanted to buy the Ergo carrier but after buying so many things already I don’t feel justified to spend that much $ on another one therefore I would love to win this giveaway! Thanks!

I started out with a “baby Bjorn” carrier, that made my back/shoulders/and neck hurt. I also had a metal framed backpack that worked once the babies were a bit bigger, but my shoulders would hurt after a day of carrying baby around in it. I started making pouch slings and loved them. We did get an ergo when #6 was born (7 months ago), and we LOVE it. However, with a two year old and an infant we could really use another one! Both my husband and I enjoy using the Ergo, and both of the girls love being in it! Baby usually wins out and gets the Ergo at this point, but our two year old often asks for her turn!

I would LOVE to win this baby carrier! Although my youngest is now 11yo, we are planning on beginning to do foster care once again… and I just can’t do babies without a baby carrier, lol. I have worn all of my children, sometimes two at a time, but always have used the sling type carriers, and over time I ruined my back. (ruptured discs and now have arthritis in my lower back) I have heard that the Ergo carriers are great for people like me.

    So pick me. Please♥

Since I’m just now getting into the whole baby wearing thing, I’d rather skip all the “my shoulders/back/neck/etc hurt” carriers out there and go straight for the good stuff. Besides, any give away that generates 400+ comments has got to be worth its salt, right?

I have a Snugli and a Hotsling. The Snugli just isn’t comfortable for me. The sling is better, and I’ve used it for my last two babies, but after 30 minutes or so, my shoulders get *really* sore and tired (even with my youngest, who was tiny). I’ve been looking for something that I can use for extended periods of time (an hour or more) without feeling like I’m going to collapse.

First of all, I’ve never commented, but I really love your blog! I am a young mom of 2, soon to be 4, little ones, and I appreciate the practical, Biblical wisdom you share. So thank you!

Secondly–I’d love to win an Ergo! I am 40 weeks pregnant with twins, and we have plans to buy a couple of ERGOs once they’re born. I have waited this long because it’s a bit of change to buy two at once.

I am a baby wearing mama, and have used multiple different kinds of wraps. I have tried out friends’ ERGOs and it seems to be the most comfortable and versatile. Plus, it’s can be a little more manly for my husband to wear with one of the twins. 🙂

My dh doesn’t like how much room a double stroller takes so we use a single bike stroller. I would love to have an ergo. I have heard how wonderful they are, however, I know I do not have my dh’s blessing to buy one. I would use if often and well. I love the idea of using it during meal prep and am anxious to use it should I be blessed to win it. Thank you for considering me. Kari

I wore my babies in an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. I loved it, but after a period of time, my shoulder was sore. I used it through pregnancies, carrying an almost 3-year old while 8 or 9 months pregnant. It was nice and comfortable most of the time, but it did take a toll physically. It was also nearly impossible to carry a purse or diaper bag. I’ve always wanted to carry a baby on my back without risk of baby falling out!

I LOVE the ergo baby carrier! I can talk about it for forever, which I often do when people (complete strangers) ask me what kind of carrier I’m wearing. My 5 month old has gotten to the point where she only takes her naps in the ergo, which I don’t mind because that means I get my chores done while she naps! My son (2 years old) often drags the ergo to me and asks “Wear you in backpack, please?”, especially right after he wakes up and needs some cuddles. I am a “baby wearing collector” so I have a Moby Wrap, a homemade Ring Sling, a Hot Slings Pouch, a Baby Bijorn, a homemade Ring Sling for the pool, and 2 ergos (one for me and one for my hubby). While each carrier has it’s own time and place that I love it, hands down, the ergo is the BEST for your body and your baby! I have yet to get tired of wearing my babies in the ergo. One last comment, while 8 1/2 months pregnant, I wore my almost 2 year old on my back AND my front, and it was wonderful! My back actually felt better after wearing it…it was like a chiropractic adjustment! 🙂

Anyways…I want to win one so I can bless one of my new mommy friends with it! 🙂

I’ve mostly used slings for baby-wearing… a ring sling and a peanut shell. I can only wear a baby in it for a short time though before my shoulders ache. The carrier style I was given was never comfortable enough for me, and just had too many buckles and straps to deal with. I would love to have a comfortable carrier for extended baby-wearing. The Ergo carrier sounds great and would love to try it!

I have a 3 1/2 year old son with special needs. He needed to have the comfort of being near me basically all of the time when he was younger. I started out using a pouch style sling from Slinglings and loved using them. As he got bigger and more active though I knew I needed something a little more sturdy. That is when I found the ERGO. I purchased it when he was about 10 months old and we were getting ready to take a trip to Disney World. I immediately loved this carrier. He went all over Disney in it and even now at 3 1/2 loves to be carried in it. Now we have a 1 month old little girl as well. I have been using the slings with her again but have also purchased the infant insert to use with the ERGO. She and I both love the ERGO with the insert! This past weekend we went on a family outing into NYC (we live in NJ) to go to the Mets/Yankees game at Yankees stadium. We were not able to bring a stroller in with us and we had to take many different trains to get to the stadium. We ended up using both the ERGO and the sling for the trip in and out. It really made us wish that we had 2 ERGOs to use in that type of a situation and were thinking about purchasing a second one in the near future. Hoping maybe to win one!! 🙂

Yes, I love mine too – used to poo-poo my friend, until I got one – sold all my frame backpacks and don’t use the Baby Bjorn – wearing my 4 year old in the Ergo is easier than the infant in the Bjorn or the 2 year old in a frame – and lighter. It is easy to bring everywhere – no need for trunk space. Kids think it is a big old hug. BIG plus it that they even fall in love with Daddy carrying them in it. It is worth the money – just see that the resale value is a 10% loss at most unless you are generous.

I would love an ERGOBaby carrier!!! I have a baby Bjorn carrier that my mother in law bought me and I LOVE wearing my precious baby boy. I really feel more connected to him and he really loves it too and he is only 6 weeks old right now and I know he will continue to love it as he gets older. I plan to wear him and all future babies as much as possible! The only thing about the carrier I have now is it does hurt my back… maybe I am wearing him to much!!

Well have a great da, I really enjoyed reading your blog!!

We like our Moby wrap, but it does have certain downsides. When I was a brand-new mom (and I say this even though I have a 9 month old and am still a new mom) I dressed my small son in warm clothes before putting him in the wrap to go shopping. He got too hot, so he started banging his head against my chin and screaming. The check-out was awful.
So! I would love to try an Ergo, it seems like it would allow more air flow.

My baby (the first of hopefully many) is three weeks old and so far we have tried a ring sling and a moby. She loves them as long as I am moving and walking but since it has only been 3 weeks since her birth, I’m not up for any big marathons yet but it is quite nice for having a free hand to eat or being able to check the mail. I do agree with a previous commenter though, it gets hot.

I tried the standard carriers with our first and hated them, and didn’t even try again until our 5th. I was reading blogs and hearing all the wonderful stories about baby-wearing, so I thought I would try it. I got another “standard” as a gift, and then someone loaned me a sling. The sling was great with the newborn, but eventually started to hurt my shoulders. I found a baby k’tan which I have loved and enabled me to wear my daughter much longer. But, living in FL, it has become very hot, and she does not like all the work it takes to get her on my back. I have wanted to try the ERGO, but can’t justify the cost…so it would be great to win one! Good luck with the birth of your sweet blessing.

I have mostly used a moby wrap so far…but I also have a ring sling.
I’d love something like the Ergo for the bigger kiddos…I have a hard time with the moby because it’s stretchy and so the heavier toddlers slip down after a short time of wearing. And the ring sling gets to my shoulder/neck after awhile.

    I’d love to win! 😀

I am pregnant with our third and would really love to have a carrier like this! I am looking into mei-teis, which appear rather similar and are a little less expensive if we have to buy one.
As to our baby-wearing experience, we carried both of our girls in the sling until they were about 3 months old and just too long for it. It was rather tiresome because it continually pulled on one shoulder. I was also nervous about them suffocating in it, which has come out recently in the news I believe! Anyways, I knew I didn’t want to do that with this baby. With a 4yo and 2yo who walk everywhere and need to hold hands, I didn’t want to have to put baby in a stroller either.
This looks like it would be very comfortable!

I have a sling from a popular brand. It was fine (one at a time) until my twins were about 10 lbs, then they seemed uncomfortable. When I washed it, the fabric seemed to twist, so it got worse. The only thing I can think to do with it, now is to give it to someone smaller than me. Perhaps the slack will help with the problem.

I have worn our three since each was born. I love a ring sling for when they are tiny, very easy to nurse in. We switch to a Patapum (similar to ERGO) when they have good head control. My husband has pretty much taken over the Patapum as his own so I don’t get to use it much. Also, I have a lot of back pain after wearing in the Patapum for a while and have to use the stroller more than I’d like. I’ve heard wonderful things about the ERGO and would love to have one. Our 2-yr-old, 7-mo-old, and new baby coming in December would all love it I’m sure!

I am expecting our second this holiday season and would love to wear this one longer than I did the first (4 months). I have tried a MOBY and BJORN style carrier and struggled with back and shoulder pain, but from all the things I have heard this is the carrier to wear all day. I’ve worn my 4 month old in a long fabric wrap since she was born. The constant physical connection with her is precious, and she is so content in it. She’ll go to sleep within seconds if I put her in when she’s fussy. I put her in a stroller for the first time two days ago because my back was sore, and it felt so strange to have her so distanced from me, to push her away from my body. Didn’t like it at all!

My 2 year old daughter, who we adopted when she was 15 months old, has been whiny and crabby recently, and I’m wondering if it’s partly adjustment to sharing me with her little sister, who she sees being worn close to my body every day. I’ve started to offer the mei tei to her to give her the chance to be close to me like her sister is, and she loves it. For some reason I’d never worn her before – I think I thought she was too big already when she first came to us – but even three minutes in it now is enough to help her feel more connected to me, and, I think, more secure.

But my back is starting to protest all this babywearing, and I’m interested in trying an Ergo.

I haven’t had a lot of experience with baby wearing. I am a graduate student who nannies part time for a family with 2 (going on 3!) children. I used a Hotsling for the younger boy (now 14 months old) when he was an infant but that only worked until he was around 5 months. I then used a Bjorn, but that was hard on back/shoulders/etc.

I love the look of the Ergo. If I could have one now I could use it with the boys that I take care of now, and then keep it to use with my own children and/or give it away to someone that needs it. I often use public transportation and it would be very nice to be able to wear one child to keep them up out of harm’s way and minimize the use of a stroller – which is a real pain on the metro or bus. Buses make you take the child/ren out and fold it. Metro is often crowded and hard to maneuver even the smallest stroller around during peak times or tourist season.

I have never found a baby carrier I could wear comfortably for more than an hour or two! I would LOVE to win an ERGO and try it out!

We have an ergo that we use right now with our 10month old baby girl. But we are adopting a baby girl from Ethiopia in 5 months so we will need another one. My husband and I both like to wear our babies when we go out! =)

I haven’t done much baby wearing, just when I went to the store when my twins were babies. One in the carrier one in the cart and my oldest in the cart as well. Now we have baby number 4 on the way and it sounds like it would be great to have her on me and still have my hands free!

I just found out I am expecting our 5th child after 9 years of not having children because my husband had a vasectomy. After being convicted that the Lord should be in control of this area of our lives we chose to have a reversal last December. We are welcoming our first reversal miracle baby next February! I never have used a carrier but seeing several mom’s in my church use them and it looks like a great tool! I would love to win one!

I am also a baby-wearing mom, but get achey and tired from sore shoulders! Also, when baby falls asleep, his head always flops around and I haven’t found a carrier yet that prevents this (have tried the sling which smooshed baby, the Bjorn which hurt by back, and a mei tai which flops heads!)…so ERGO might be next on our list!

After Baby #4, I got a Maya and a Moby. Both were great while the baby was small, but my husband won’t touch them. Now Baby #5 is on the way and I’d love for him to have a way to carry our 11-month old so I can carry our littlest more comfortably!

I’m pregnant with our third and and would love to try an Ergo this time around!

With my first, I hadn’t really heard about baby-wearing at all. But by my second, some friends bought me a Moby Wrap, which I’ve loved. Something a little less complicated to get on and off would be nice, though…. 🙂

I never even considered myself as a “baby-wearer” with my first two little ones. I had the Baby Bjorn and used it when they were teeny tiny, but after about 2 months they seemed so uncomfortable (and so was I!). Then a friend of mine had a newborn and she used a sling with him. I thought they looked so precious cuddling together and so I was sure that I’d borrow it from her when I had my third. After thinking about it though, I realized you can’t really “baby-wear” a one year old in a sling either! So, another friend loaned me her baby wrap when I had my fourth. Unfortunately in that I felt like a mummy not a mommy! Now my third child is three and my fourth child is one and I still long to “wear my babies”. Maybe the Ergo is what I’m looking for?

I have a maya wrap that I have used with my last two out of four children, and while its been great for that newborn stage, its ROUGH with an older, heavier baby. I tried on a friends ergo a couple of years ago and have been wanting one ever since!! My newest edition is 6 months old and I would LOVE to win this!!

I have used several different carriers found the traditional snugglie to be horrid and tried a sling and a pouch, I have always wanted an ergo. We have a new baby due in several weeks and I haven’t purchased one yet still hoping to have the funds! My pouch is going to be too warm and the sling is okay but not as comfortable as I would like. Thanks for the opportunity.

I just got an ERGO through a deal at BabySteals.com, and remembered your review (I think it was how I first heard of ERGOs) so came back to re-read it. I’m curious–did you ever try the infant insert? I have it, but have yet to quite get the hang of it. Though I’m quite positive getting the hang of a wrap would be even harder for me. 🙂 I love the ease of the ERGO, it’s just a bit big still for my 1-month-old–yet the infant insert is going to be quite warm this summer.

    Kimberly @ Raising Olives Reply:

Hi Gretchen. I honestly didn’t like the infant insert. It seemed to hurt Bella’s feet and she just never seemed comfy or happy in it. It also sticks out far in the front which makes it less practical for shopping or working around the house where you need to use your hands in front of you. The wrap is easy to get the hang of and for me just works a lot better until the baby gets big enough for the ERGO w/o the insert.

CONGRATULATIONS! I hope that you’re enjoying your sweet new little one.

Thank you! We are enjoying having another little one around the house. 🙂

Appreciated your feedback, since I know you like ERGOs! I guess I’ll have to keep an eye out for a good deal on a wrap. (Do you prefer wraps over slings?) Meanwhile, I’ll keep struggling with the ERGO insert, and look forward to using the ERGO even more when he’s older. 🙂

    Kimberly @ Raising Olives Reply:

I do prefer a wrap over a sling especially for little ones. I do not find that slings are hands free with small babies and they hurt my shoulder after a short period of time.

I’m not sure how good of a deal you’re looking for, but Babies R’ Us carries Moby Wraps. Maybe they have coupons?

    Blessings to your family!

    [Reply]

    Gretchen Reply:

That makes sense about a sling not being hands-free–not to mention hurting the shoulder! Babies R Us does have a good price–I was noticing that. I’ll have to look for some online coupons, since they don’t carry the Moby wrap in stores…

For now, I think I’ll use my Baby Bjorn front pack for when I want something less bulky than the ERGO with insert. As far as I can tell, the Baby Bjorn doesn’t carry him much differently than the Ergo, except that perhaps his legs are spread slightly more apart…

    Thanks for your expert advice/reviews!

I thought I’d better update my comment… I tried the Baby Bjorn once, but the next day discovered my son’s hernia and was scared to use it again for fear it would put pressure in the wrong spot.

But then? I bought some woven fabric and made myself a wrap. We love it!! It was a lifesaver in those days after his hernia surgery when he was still in so much pain. He’s just finally big enough to Ergo carry without the insert, and I go back and forth between the Ergo and the wrap because I love both. 🙂

(Needless to say…the Baby Bjorn carrier went to the consignment shop…)

    Kimberly @ Raising Olives Reply:

I’m glad that you were able to make a wrap. Bella loved the Moby. As a matter of fact at 13 months she still loves the Moby.

I’m with you. I use both the wrap and the ERGO. I can’t just pick one.
