Last week we celebrated Matthew’s 11th birthday. For his special day we made a big fire in the back yard and cooked dinner and roasted marshmallows for S’mores out over the open flame. I did NOT ask if I could stay inside and watch through the sliding glass doors since it was close to 90 degrees and I’m less than a month away from having a baby.
I did NOT go out anyway, sit right beside the fire (in a futile attempt to avoid mosquitoes) and have a wonderful time watching the 3 year old try to roast a marshmallow while standing 3 feet away from the fire after catching his first 3 marshmallows on fire.
After roasting marshmallows we did NOT allow our kids to catch lightening bugs so that they could have lightening bug ‘night lights’. (Remember, we don’t allow living critters in the house for VERY good reasons.)
While the big kids were catching lightening bugs, the 2 and 3 year old did NOT find a mud hole and proceed to stomp and bathe themselves in mud.
If the 2 and 3 year old had bathed in a mud hole, they would NOT have come running up to Mark and me as we sat by the dying fire and gleefully show us their new ‘mud outfits’.
Since I’m a wonderful help meet to my husband, I did NOT come inside after all the adventures and go right to sleep, leaving my sweet husband to deal with S’mores faces and hands, lightening bug nightlights, mud outfits and 9 children who were up W -A- Y past their bedtime.
This week we read about different ways that people around the world dress and so one of the kids ‘assignments’ was to dress up like people from different countries and cultures. My big kids did NOT dress Nick (2) like a primitive tribesman with a colorful belt around his waist and ONLY a colorful belt around his waist .
I did NOT get a Facebook friend request from my GRANDMOTHER! Way to go grandma!

I feel kinda sorry for your 2-year-old…but that’s REALLY funny.
Hope this last month is not TOO miserable for you!

It sounds like you had quite the adventure! Your husband is a great man for letting you go to bed while he took care of the kids after the party. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. I bet you are anxious to have it over with and have your baby in your arms.

Mud is so addictive. My kids had a puddle jumping contest over the weekend while my darling husband watched and I made dinner. They came in soaked… had to peel the clothing off but the smiles were priceless. Way to go for building memories with your kiddos rather than worrying about spotless floors and clean laundry.

Thanks, but I will say that it’s much easier to build memories when I’m not tired pregnant. However, I always say that when my kids come in filthy I feel like I’m being a good mom.

The belt, and only the belt, was my favorite part!!!!! Ok I did laugh pretty hard when I read you went inside, fell asleep and left hubby to deal with all that…..hahaha poor guy

Oh that’s funny. Especially about the belts! lol Have ya’ll watched The End of the Spear? My boys played Auca Indians for weeks after that. I would look out and find them in their underwear and/or a brown piece of cloth around their hips. Boys!

We have not seen The End of the Spear. But I will put it on my list. We tend to watch more tv right after we have a baby. Somehow it’s easier for this “early to bed” momma to be up late with a baby if there is some entertainment going on!!
