Moby Wrap Baby Carrier Giveaway and Review

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to SillyGeese for winning a Moby Wrap of your choice.

Isabella sleeping in the Moby

Having  Isabella has reminded me how much time, love and attention a new baby needs and how thankful I am to be a baby wearing mom.

Babies  need to be held. Babies need to be held a lot.

It’s a beautiful privilege to be needed so, but with other responsibilities vying for my time it can make me feel a bit stretched.   Baby wearing gives Isabella and me the closeness that we both need and want, produces a strong bond, a happy baby and still allows me to fulfill my other responsibilities.

It took me a long time (7-8 kids) to find baby wearing solutions that were practical, comfortable and worked for me. I needed a good, “comfortable-for-everyday” carrier that allows me to carry my still-floppy baby and have hands free to accomplish other tasks. I needed something for the under 6 month crowd.  That’s when I discovered the Moby Wrap.

Nicholas in Moby after a 6 mile hike

What is a Moby?

The Moby is a wrap.  This means there are no stiff pieces, buckles or fasteners.  It is a large piece of 100% cotton knit fabric that you wrap around you and baby.  The Moby goes over both shoulders and around your waist distributing the babies weight very evenly and making it possible to comfortably wear your baby for hours without tired shoulders or a stiff neck.

Isabella getting ready for a nap in the Moby

It is possible to carry your baby in several different positions with the Moby.  I regularly use all of the front holds.  I use the back and hip carries occasionally.  (I can not get the baby into the back carry position without another person helping me.)

The Moby is for newborns up to children weighing 35 pounds (about 3 years) and is machine washable.  I use the Moby almost exclusively for those early months or when our little one is napping.

Our Moby experience

We got our first Moby when Nicholas (baby #9) was 2 months old and I wore him around the house in the Moby throughout the day.  He would snuggle in contentedly while I washed dishes, taught school, took kids to the bathroom or switched the laundry.  When he got tired, he would put his head on my chest and go to sleep not waking when I needed to sit down or get back up again.

Now I’m using the Moby with Isabella.  The Moby holds Isabella close to my body as if she were swaddled in a blanket and it provides wonderful head support.  When she  falls asleep in the Moby there is no flopping of her head as I move around causing her to stir or wake.  Bella’s  head is held securely against my body.

Even as our babies get older I put them in the Moby if I know that they are going to (or should) nap in the carrier.  Both Bella and Nicholas get/got some of their best naps in the Moby.

Sweet Bella in Moby

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Comfortable for mom- no shoulder or neck strain
  • Terrific for baby naps – baby is wrapped close and does not usually wake with mom’s movements
  • Keeps baby close to mom’s body – Other carriers protrude out in front making it difficult to work in the kitchen or read a book held in front of you.   The Moby keeps baby close in to your body making these tasks much easier.
  • Wrap it once and take baby in and out as needed
  • Comfortable for baby even newborns
  • Flexible – able to wrap the baby many different ways and if they fall asleep it is simple to pull some extra fabric up to support their head.
  • Nice selection of colors and designs

Cons:

  • It takes a while to get the hang of wrapping.
  • The ends drag on the ground when you’re wrapping it.  (When I go out I try to remember to wrap the Moby before we leave the house, then I just put Isabella in and out of the Moby as we get to each stop.)
  • It can get hot.

Double baby wearing

For those of you with more than one small child, I regularly wear our two youngest children (Nicholas 2 and Isabella 8 weeks) at the same time  I wrap Bella in the Moby in one of the front carries and put Nicholas in the ERGO on my back. I can generally walk several miles with both babies quite comfortably.

I would chose the regular Moby in indigo. I tried making a similar carrier, but made it with the wrong fabric and my baby ended up at my knees, so I switched to a sling, but they don’t work comfortably for heavier babies.

Having just had our baby girl, I love the girly-girly prints and colors: lilac, daisies, etc.

I have been a babywearing mama since I had my second child. With the third child, I started to get the hang of it and with my fourth, I wore my baby constantly! Since I am only 5 days postpartum, I have mostly been sticking around the couch, but when I am up again, I will be sure to pull out my stash of slings!

Moby Organic Swirl is beautiful. I’m expecting #13 and have used a sling since Baby 4. I have a couple of friends that use a Moby wrap and love them. I think it would be great to have another style!

I have used the Bjorn with my first four children but would love something a little more comfortable with our 5th. Nathan loves to be held! I just was introduced to the Moby by my sister-in-law this summer and would love one in moss. Your blog is so encouraging and practical. Thanks for taking the time to share!

I would chose the Owl Moby Wrap Design. I love the Moby wrap. My twin daughters are also BIG fans of the Moby blankets. They are so soft and stretchy (like the wrap) and are perfect for swaddling but also great through toddlerhood! I love this fact about them since many baby blankets are purely for one “stage” or another. The Moby blanket, like the wrap, is great through all the stages your baby grows through :) .

I am really liking the idea of a Moby wrap (in red) for baby number 3 (our first girl!) due in December. I appreciate the pros and cons listed and this looks like a great solution for trying to keep up with my 2 active boys and loving my newest blessing!

I think I’d be “boring” and go with solid black, chocolate, or the sandy color- that way it would go with any outfit, to any occasion, with any gender baby. I’ve expecting number 5 in February (our oldest just turned 4!) and would love to try the Moby. :)

i wore my son in a fancy boutique, supose to be simple, sling some when he was a wee bit but i always felt like he was going to fall out when i moved around. so i would end up with one arm under him anyway which defeated the purpose. My sister was given a moby with her daughter and loved it. now that i am expecting my second i want/need/would love to have one too! I really like the UV wrap in fuchsia or the seasonal wrap in pacific.

I would go with the simple chocolate Moby wrap. I’ve tried a few baby carriers, but once babies hit 12-15 pounds, you NEED the weight distributed across both shoulders to keep it up for any length of time. I haven’t even been using our sling lately because it is just too much strain on one shoulder. :(

A Moby would probably be the perfect solution…. ;)

Mmm…a Moby Wrap! I would choose the Almond Blossom Moby Design wrap with UV protection because my husband and I love being outdoors so naturally, our baby would spend a lot of time outside with us!
I have no experience baby wearing, mainly because our little one has not yet been born! Our baby is due on my birthday, New Year’s Eve, and I am looking forward to motherhood and would love to get a wrap and keep my baby close to me.

Hello Kim. I left a comment a few days ago to enter this contest for Moby wrap. However, I would like to change my request from myself to my sister. Her 5th child was born in early August and spent the 1st 3.5 weeks in the NICU. He has recently come home in time for them to move cross country from Virginia to Idaho. She says he is really been fussy and clingy, so I thought she could use this wrap far more than I could! Her husband is still looking for a teaching job in the Boise, ID area, so they do not have any income coming in and $40 for a baby wrap is just not there to spend.

    Thank you for this offer!

I am super hopefully to win a Moby wrap in chocolate. I am a mom of 4. Nehemiah is our newest little man at 1 month old. He has also been my most needy of being close to mommy most of the time. You would think I’d be a pro by now at multiple tasks, but his need for me has left me challenged to accomplish all that needs to be done for our family and others kiddod. My oldest is 5, followed by a 4 year old and 2 year old. I’ve tried a hot sling with my 4 & 2 year old girls as babies and they hated it. I tried to break it out again for Nehemiah and his protest was immediate. He’ll do the baby bjorn we have, but it really doesn’t allow me much room to do things, his head flops if I have to lean forward for something, and my body can only tolerate it for short times. I was feeling a little defeated until I saw this post on facebook from my friend who is a fouls in Charlotte. Maybe there is a solution. Would love to try a moby and see if at last Nehemiah and I could find a way to keep him close to me. He’ll tolerate our swing for a bit, but what he truly wants is me. Thanks for sharing about this wrap and giving me a new hope!! Blessings to your wonderful family!!
