Large Family Logistics Giveaway

Congratulations to Amy @ A Call to Adventure and Melissa @ These are the Moments for winning the copies of Large Family Logistics.

Yes, you read that right. Raising Olives is giving away not one, but TWO copies of Large Family Logistics. Earlier this week I gushed (and a lot of you gushed) about how much this book has helped our home.Β  Moving chore time to the afternoon is just the tip of the iceberg, there are many great ideas and practical tips. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to share this resource with you.

Large Family Logistics isn’t just for large families. It would be helpful for any mother who is running a home.Β  (I think it would make a wonderful wedding or baby shower gift). Kim has chocked this book full of practical tips from meal planning and quiet time to stain removal and ideas for successful breastfeeding and chore training.

But LFL isn’t just a practical, how-to book for managing a home. It also hits the heart of the matter.

Motherhood is a life of sacrifice; it is a life poured out for our children. So what are we to do to get some space from it all? When we are honest with ourselves, we know that it is not “Me Time” we need or a “Girls’ Night Out”. Children are not a burden to escape or endure; they are a blessing that drives us to Christ because we are incapable of parenting well without Him. God is who we need. While there are helpful strategies we can employ in order to have a more peaceful day with our children, the number one thing we must do is to deny Self and cling to the cross. ~Kim Brenneman, Large Family Logistics

So if you don’t win this giveaway put it on your wish list and save up your money, this book will benefit not only you, but your whole family.

Only one area that needs the most work? I need routines in every area and feel so out of control sometimes. But I would say a cleaning schedule or system.

I ordered mine from Amazon after reading your last post. I got it the next day! I have been so busy with B90days and planning for 60 meals that I have not yet sat down with it, but it is a large book, well worth the price!

One area that needs the most help is using our time wisely. We think of big projects to do, but have a hard time getting started on them. Or if we do get started we think we need to finish it all in one day instead of portioning out the project. We also tend to waste time that could be spent doing other more important things.

The one area I would like more help is chore time. Yeesh! I think I’ve tried about a billion ways to encourage a daily clean-up time/routine for the children and myself. Okay, maybe I’ve only tried a half a billion ways. Either way, all attempts have been futile.

I am so excited about this book! I think that if I start implementing a lot of the systems now, while the fam is still small, it’ll be an easier learning curve as our two small children go to a few small children and more! Physical areas of the house? Well, my kitchen always seems to be a disaster!
Other areas? I really struggle with balance. I want/need to get in some exercise, not only for my personal health but my mental health. I have a hard time finding a place for me and the things I like- exercise, reading, sewing. So, more of a balance, I guess. My mantra has been “maybe now is not my season for ____” but I would like to see if I can take better care of myself!

I would say Balance is the area that needs the most attention right now in our family. It is what I struggle with and what I am always trying to achieve since we started homeschooling 5 years ago. Balancing being in God’s word with homeschooling with married life with household responsibilities with outside responsibilities, etc. etc. We have our 5th child due in August and I would love to have a wonderful resource like this book available to me. My husband and I married when he returned from Iraq in August 2010. We also immediately moved 1,000 miles away to a new duty station. We have combined two houses worth of “stuff” into a space much smaller than what either of us previous lived in as singles. Our house feels like a storage unit, not a home, and I am incredibly disappointed, frustrated, and depressed that our first home is such a disaster. I am at a loss for how to organize, prioritize, and decide what just needs to go! I can’t find a starting point nd feel completely defeated and like a failure as a wife. NOT what I had envisioned!

I’m learning slowly that not everything has to be done in the morning! I may need to order this book if I don’t win it! What area of the home needs the most help…. If I say, “all of it” does that make me sound sad? :o)

Having just had our 8th in 11 years, what area doesn’t need help! Seriously, I fluctuate between everything being under control and mah-velous to the reign of utter chaos. My husband assures me this is not the case and all is well, but it’s difficult for me to see that. I would love insight and maybe some new ideas to make the whole package(homeschooling, cooking, cleaning, laundry, where does it end!), more balanced, thereby making me more sane. Serenity now!

the area in my home that needs the most help is a tie between the kids rooms (3 in one room, 2 in another and our “tween” for now has her own room) and the laundry room, which really is just a mountain of laundry.

Chore time is my weakest area. My house is so behind since I had the triplets. Yes, you read that right! And we had very little help in the beginning, so it was either feed, change and play with the babies (or my 3 yr old at the time) or clean the house. Nope, didn’t clean/de-clutter the house so now, four years later, I’m drowning to catch up and too embarrassed to ask for help. LOVE your website! Thanks for the ideas!

Our home could definitely use some help in the kitchen. We have a table off to the side and things just get piled up on it. Appliances, pantry overflow, fruit that is ripening in bags, wine bottles that don’t fit in the fridge, I think the checkbook is over there as well, somewhere in the pile. Daily Chores are my biggest battle. I don’t like doing them so I am easily put off by cute faces wanting to do home schooling instead of cleaning and laundry. Is it really that important to make the bed? I grew up having to make it before even getting dressed and I hated it, so I let it go with my kids but I am always dashing to make beds if company happens unexpectedly. Laundry is my worst!! Now that I have posted I feel like I need to head over to and get back on that plan. It did work for me but I got lazy with it when we started home schooling.

As the Mom of 4 adult children and 14 grandchildren who range in age from 21 to not yet born, the area I most need assistance with in my own peace of mind and heart. I think the clinging to the cross will be my only way to release all my concerns about my children and their children and the, to varying degrees, issues that cause me worry about their lives. It is really hard to know when to speak and when to be silent, what to say and what not to say. So, the room in my house that needs the most attention has to be my own heart-room.

I need help with figuring out how to make the most of the space in the kids’ room. We will have three kids in one room for a while because our third room is in the basement and we dont feel comfortable having any of our very young kids on a different floor of the house until they are old enough to understand emergency proceedures and help their younger siblings if there were a fire or something. So for now, howevermany kids I wind up having are going to have to share a room until they are older and I need ideas on how to arrange things so they are not crowded.

My homeschooling family of 8 plus a dog are planning a life changing move to Australia. I’ve tried once a month cooking, Flylady, chore charts, workboxes and lots of other systems to help with daily tasks. They work for awhile. I could sure use some new ideas and it would be helpful to have some routines in stilled before we go “Down Under”. I hope you choose me.

Ohhhh I so hope to win this book! I have 9 children ages 8 months to 20 years with a set of twins in the mix and we live in a fixer-upper because I was silly enough to want one. NEVER again! We have always homeschooled our children and we also pastor a small work that is half our family at the present time. I’m exhausted, the renovations and school work and my last pregnancy which was high risk and lots of bed rest and sickness totally discouraged me. I guess I’m burned out and that was how I found your blog in the first place. It’s given me hope and ideas and it’s not that I don’t know what to do but rather that I forget things that would work or have worked for me in the past. I find each month lately with my baby girl being 8 months old, hating the crib and starting to walk on furniture is a new experience of joy and terror. So… I NEED this book and was actually hoping to buy it but it seems they take credit card. I do paypal.

I need help on training my kids to help around the house. I think they could do so much more that what I ask of them. I am fairly organized. I’ve even used the Chore Pack system from Steve and Teri Maxwell. I just really don’t like playing bad cop and making them fix the sloppy stuff/undone stuff. I have heard so many great things about this book, and I was glad to find it at our local library! I had to put it on reserve though so it may be a few months before I get it from there. For right now, I feel like things are going pretty well at our house, but I could use some help with chore training as well- as in, when to start and how to do it. We have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and a baby due in a little over 2 months- our toddlers do help, especially with cleaning up their toys…but there isn’t anything really set to be their “chores”, we just have them help when asked/needed. Does it talk about how to manage many littles at the same time? Because that would be really helpful too πŸ™‚ Our oldest will not quite be 2 1/2 when the baby is born.

I realize that I am not allowed to participate in this giveaway and that is why I am writing. As an Expat living overseas you don’t realize what gold it is to be able to access books like the one you are giving away. It’s not that we cannot access these books it’s that it costs more for us to get these books. With exchange rates and shipping and import duties we probably pay almost double what you are paying.

What I am asking you to consider is including international folks from time to time maybe with a little stipulation that “should the winner be from overseas they will be required to pay postage” or something to that effect. We will still “win” by only having to pay for shipping.

    Just something to consider.

I enjoy your website and actually have this book on my wishlist with CBD. I look forward to reading it one day.

    Thank you for the encouragement,

I would absolutely LOVE this book! I am a mother to a 2 year old girl, 1 year old boy, and a baby due in August. We plan to have many more children, naturally and or through adoption. This book would help me so much in organizing our small home more efficiently and grocery shopping for a large family. Thanks!

Uuuuummmmm….there are so many! I would have to say our kitchen…..the counters and island are perfect places for clutter to build up. We are constantly de-cluttering and it always comes back. Plus, we need some creative ideas for how to store more grocery items for a longer period of time……our fridge and pantry are not really large enough to house food for a family of 7 for very long, so I am constantly running back to the store to “pick up a few things”.

Chores & cleaning routines would be the main thing (though certainly not the ONLY thing!) I need help with – I only have 5 (hehe, not many places I would put the word ONLY in that sentence!) aged 11, 10, 5, almost 3 & 1, but with so many little one’s and with homeschooling added into that, I really struggle alot in the area of organisation and housekeeping. Sounds like a good book! Going to add it to my wishlist!

I struggle with all of it. You would think that managing a home would come naturally once you have children, but it doesn’t. I struggle with everything from scheduling and sticking to it, to housework, to getting school done, planning meals ahead of time instead of on the fly at 5pm that night, to having enough of me left over for my husband. I’ve had my eye on this book and would so love to win it. I need a doable routine that doesn’t feel impossible to achieve everyday.

I would like to grow my family but I have self doubt and insecurities about whether I could actually handle it all. (I have 2 children now.)I seem to love the idea of having a large family but am scared of the reality of it. I keep praying about it and my thoughts seem to change depending on the day. I look at large family blogs as inspiration and encouragement. The biggest thing I need is confidence that I can do this and that He will help me.

Our garage is our “dumping spot” and we need this cleaned to make more actual living room. We clean it out a bit and stuff from the house goes back out there. It’s never ending, and maddening. One area I need help in, where do I begin?
I guess our biggest issue (today) would be the kids’ rooms. The girls always seem to have a mess and with their age differences(14, 12, 7) figuring out an organizational system that works for all of them is seeming impossible.

Oh my….chores…. This is an area that is always evolving at our house… when? how? what about different ages (we span quite a few years)? It seems to be a tough issue all around. Sounds like a great book to get to the heart of the matter. And besides what home school mom doesn’t loave a good read. We are family with 5 kids (at the moment)…2 bio, one adopted from foster care and one foster baby. Things change around here quickly (we have had 5 foster children in one year). Thanks for this great offer. Heading to Fb right now and starting the blog after FB. I don’t tweet so that one I won’t be able to do. I guess I need to “Get with it”. Foster mamalion

I suppose I am not much like the others wanting a copy of this book. My three children are ages 21, 16, and 13…we are in our 15th year of homeschooling…you might think I should be able to write a book myself by now on “how to get it all done”. Although I have finally figured out meal planning and think I have some useful ideas to share on that, I still need help with time management. When the kids get older, home management “issues” don’t necessarily go away…they just change. Keeping up with studies, chores, church/work responsibities, and still making time for family time, hobbies, etc. is not easy when everyone is going in different directions. I’m still learning. After reading this book myself, I want to give a copy to my daughter and also to my young sister-in-law who has a 1yo daughter and baby #2 on the way.

I know I am not much like some of the other women who are wanting this book, I am actually not homeschooling at this point, although, it is something that I have thought about. I am the mother of 3 beautiful children, aged 1,2, and 5, and have one more on the way! The biggest area of concern in my home and life, is organization. I have a hard time getting my stuff organized, as well as my time! I would love to have this book, and if I don’t win it plan on buying it as soon as I can. I love being a stay at home mom and taking care of children, spending my time and energy and giving all my love to my babies, but it seems like without the organization I need I spend so much time cleaning and trying to organize things that I miss out on being a mom. I don’t want to miss watching my kids grow up because I am too worried about trying to gain control of the mess in my home! I would love to have this book!

I would have to say a lot of areas in my life need help. I’m managing to do okay, but I only have three so far and we’re planning for several more, and the ones I have are really small so I really want to get all areas organized (as much as possible) before they get big enough to assume bad habits. I guess chore time is the biggest, and meal planning, especially how to make more than one meal when baby needs nursing, boo boos need kissing, and princess dresses need buttoning.

My hubby sent me the link, so I guess I must really need help!! LOL

    1. Finding time for quiet time with God…My current bible study consists of the lessons I do with my kids.

Cooking! I was not raised learning any domestic skills. After four kids I have picked up quite a lot considering where I started, but cooking still haunts me. I’ve learned enough to get by, but hosting any kind of dinner for adults makes me break out in sweats.

The area of my house the needs the most work is keeping up on daily chores with the kids. I thrive on organization but haven’t found a system that works for us yet. I’d love for the house to stay tidy without all the hassle that it seems to take to keep it that way.

My husband and I have been blessed with 13 beautiful children, ages 3 to 26. As the Lord has sent them, I’ve learned many things about large family logistics, but just as the number of children affects our “strategies” for keeping everyone content and the household running smoothly, so do the individual personalities of the children! We started out with 4 girls, a boy, then another girl. Our household at that point was girl-oriented. Now that the first four have left home, and the younger set consists of 5 boys and 4 girls, I find that the boy-oriented household requires that changes be made! Many have asked ME to write a book on this, but not ’til I’m out of the “thick” of DOING it! I’m always open to new ideas! Bless you, Beth Ann

The area of my home that could use the MOST help is my office space (or lack thereof). I always have a few boxes of paperwork to be filed/attended to shoved under my desk (or in a closet if company comes).

This looks like a great book! I could use help figuring out how to be productive with littles underfoot. For example, how to load the dishwasher when my 1 year-old unloads it as fast as I do!

Hmmm, like many others I don’t know if I can name just one but my basement and unused 4th bedroom (at the back of the house) are both in constant shambles. Seems to be the 2 places we toss things and go.

My laundry needs the most help. We don’t have a laundry “room” so I have to put clean clothes on the sofa or wherever they will fit. Then of course there is always some toddler “emergency” or school needs to be taught so we seem to always have clothes piling up. Help!

Is organizing/ scheduling too broad? I’m a new SAHM and have a preschool, a toddler, and a newborn. Apparently a lack of knowledge concerning domestic arts combined with an overwhelming desire to play with and snuggle my babies all day long makes for a pretty non-productive mommy. I need so much help!

I love having a big family we have 6 kids and my mother living with us. I love that my mom is here heck she raised me for 18 years and then helped me out with my kids as needed and now I am returning the favor. My kids have a better grip on reality than most since they live in a large group we have seen most problems and they learn from one anothers errors and they learn how to work as a team which will help them do better at any job that team work is required and they can all balance a budget and have pride in what they do have and not the latest gadget on the market. They know the value of family time, the Lords time, laws and gifts and how the “NORMAL” family is sooo disfunctional and we all enjoy the positiveness that it shows to others in the world and now with my husband being home for a year after his second heart transplant the day after
Christmas the kids are showing us all that we have taught them over the years and how much they truly do work and come togeather a a fine oiled machine when needed. The Lord has blessed us with 6 wonderful kids and if he sees fit to gift us with more we are up for the challenge. God Bless all large families that follow the Lords work and words!

At the moment– my kitchen and my attitude. I only have two little ones (with another on the way) but have been fighting a lot of feelings of discouragement at the lack of things I can accomplish in a day. Maybe if things were structured differently in my home it would be better?

I was told by a friend that I *WANT* this book. =) So, here I am!
Our mornings.. that’s probably the worst thing. I used to say bedtime, but I think we have finally gotten a handle on that. Now I need to learn how to get everyone up and dressed and fed and going and beds made and school started. Next to that would be laundry and dishes, of course. It’s always laundry and dishes!! =p

We have been abundantly blessed with seven precious gifts, so far, ages 1-12. I have heard great things about this book! My area is probably getting the kids “morning chores” done in a timely fashion, getting school started (we home educate) at the right time, and keeping the ever hated/always messy playroom tidy. Of course, there is always laundry… & my room is always the last to be done bc if a baby is asleep, all the laundry ends up in my room. Oh… & keeping my kitchen counters uncluttered w/ coupons, paper, etc. And lastly, a menu plan has been on my mind to do… for years. Sounds like a book I could benefit from greatly.

I desperately feel like i could use this book. With 7 children under 11, and having just moved to a small dairy farm, i feel at times like i am swimming with my head held just above water. The area that could use the most help? Not sure…..every area? Struggling to fit school in around cows and farm emergencies, and yet still keep a clean house, cook nutritious and frugal meals and most of all, be a godly mother and wife, has me continually falling to my knees.

Reading this book would be like a long drink of cool water on a hot dusty afternoon……… πŸ™‚
