Hardwood Block Set {Giveaway}

Mark and I collect open ended, creativity inspiring toys for our children, toys that both boys and girls enjoy and that will entertain a wide range of ages. As a matter of fact we routinely cull toys that don’t have those possibilities. The latest addition to our selection of open-ended, creative toys is this large set of hardwood blocks from Constructive Playthings.

This is the same set of blocks that my parents had and I played with as a child, the same blocks that my children and their cousins still play with when they visit the grandparents. This is a toy that Mark and I plan to keep for our grandchildren.

The hardwood unit blocks super saver set is a set of hardwood standard unit (1 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ x 5 1/2″) blocks with a variety of double units, half units, arches, cylinders, ramps and more totaling 82 blocks in all. These blocks are high quality, smooth and lovely. We’ve been absolutely delighted.

Our children have enjoyed creating cities, towers and castles in addition to road systems and ramps for their matchbox cars. They’ve made forts for army men and houses for themselves. If we only had one toy in our home, I think it would be a quality set of hardwood blocks and this set is delightful.

    There is so much to choose from, but I think, other than the blocks, I’d choose the bristle blocks. I’d love getting the hardwood blocks because we have 5 children under 4 years, so the small set we invested in a few years ago just isn’t enough for them to build much of anything. I like the bristle blocks because we, too, have weeded out toys that are “popular” now but will be boring later. We also love open-ended toys and toys that, if you lose a part, you haven’t ruined the whole set :).

    We have a small set of blocks that I had bought when I only had children, before God had laid on my heart that I should not hinder His wonderful blessings…now, my set of blocks is not enough! How my kids love to build with them, but we don’t have the large size. Those look fun.

    The boys really would love the marble run set.

    With 8 children more blocks would be a blessing. Looking through the constructive mom website can make one drool, but I know a little girl (our only girl!)who loves to draw and paint and who would love a double sided easel.

    I would love to get the “Dress to Nest Dolls” for my 3 year old. He’s at the age where he *wants* to dress himself, but doesn’t quite have all the fine motor skills he needs to do so successfully. He’d love those! (& the blocks, or course!). :)

    Wooden Pioneer Building Logs is a standout favorite at our house. These are Lincoln Logs by any other name, same quality, but far more for your money. Also, modern Lincoln Logs are sold in creativity-constricting sets, with instructions and pictures of only one or two buildings. Not so these, and with so many pieces to use, they are great for creative constructions.

    This is another example of open-ended play potential, and has occupied my children for MANY hours. In their little world, these have become ships, playgrounds (the short logs are peg people), armies and fortifications, etc. etc. We bought ours several years ago from Constructive Playthings, and they have been some of the most-used toys in our house.

    Thanks for the discount by clicking through your blog, by the way. This vendor is one of my main go-to’s for birthdays and Christmas, so I’ll be sure to keep that discount in mind.
