Gap Kids, babyGap and Frugality {Giveaway}

As a mom of many living on one income, you generally won’t find me shopping in the mall for children’s clothing. I generally shop second-hand at thrift stores or yard sales. However, one thing that I learned very early in my quest to clothe our children on less is that if I purchase something new, I’m better off purchasing from a higher-end retailer.

I learned this the hard way when someone gave us money to buy Amber (then 4) some new clothes. We headed to a local discount store and were able to purchase five outfits with the small check.
Great deal, right?

With two younger girls who would have been able to wear the hand-me-downs, we regretted our decision the first time the clothes came out of the wash.

The truth of the matter is that sometimes spending more is being frugal.

This can be especially true in a family where clothing can be passed down and used by multiple children.

It is also true when you choose to buy a few classically designed, high-quality items for your child to wear as opposed to scores of trendy, less expensive clothes that will over-stuff your child’s drawers and closet.

With their thoughtful designs and attention to quality and detail, babyGap and GapKids provides all of this and is one of my go-to brands when it comes to purchasing clothing for the kids. I trust Gap because I know that their clothes wash and wear well and are cute to boot.

Gap has always offered a classic style with exceptional quality and their new line for ‘back-to-school’, The Portobello Road Collection, based on 1969 denim, is no exception.  Sweet dresses, ruffled tops, rugged jeans and layers (I’m lovin’ those layers) all with Gap quality, style and durability.

I love that Gap offers all the ‘look-at-me’ cute pieces, extra accessories (love the hats for the boys) and layers that make an outfit exceptional, but they also offer classy single pieces with simple style and charm for real, everyday kids who live a real, everyday life.

Now allow me to be frank, since moving to a large city, I’ve been able to, almost exclusively, clothe our children in high-end, quality clothing by buying used (and I’m always looking for that  trustworthy Gap symbol) but during our years in small town USA, I just didn’t have that option. Instead I watched the sales and stocked up on clothing when the retailers were serious about drawing people in, like during the ‘back-to-school’ sales.

Homeschoolers  have the luxury of ignoring much of the back-to-school hoopla, but it’s helpful to keep one eye open in order to snag deals that will be beneficial to your family.

Here’s one that you don’t want to miss. Right now (8/5-8/17) Gap is offering their kids and baby jeans starting at just $15!

That’s $15 for the classic in kid’s jeans. $15 for jeans that even my children have a hard time wearing out!

Don’t have a Gap in your area or dread the thought of clothes shopping with a troop of little ones? Gap online offers everyday free shipping on orders over $50. And while you’re there be sure to check out their sales page for discounts on their off season clothing and stock up for next year.

To make shopping at Gap this year even more appealing Gap is giving one Raising Olives’ reader a $25 Gap gift card.

I TOTALLY agree with you…we’ve learned that buying higher quality, albeit more expensive items when we need to buy new is much more frugal because the quality is SO much better!

I LOVE Gap as well. I had some maternity clothes from them, that held up and are still going strong through 3 pregnancies, and their kids clothes are adorable, stylish, and always hold up really well too! (We buy almost all of ours online from clearance, or re-sale.)

We also love Gymboree, and Children’s Place clothing for great quality and style. 🙂 So excited for this giveaway!

GapKids is good quality and they do have good end of season sales. My children get GAP gift cards every year from a very generous aunt at Christmas. We encourage them when picking out what they want to check the sales first and many times they have walked away with twice as much as the sibling who didn’t find something on the sale rack.

We love Gap! I generally tend to buy all my kids clothes second hand but completely agree that buying better clothing really is a savings in the long run. If we buy at at store, or consignment shop, I try to buy Gap or Gymboree b/c it washes well and makes it through more than just one season or kid! Great giveaway!!!

We have a lot of nice consignment sales around here, so I typically get the kids clothing from there, but I also try to look for the Gap label and have bought there new on sale as well. For jeans (especially for boys), I’ve found it’s best to buy good quality cause others wear out too fast. Gap is great quality for sure.

I, too, really like the Gap brand. I’m also one of those that rarely buys new Gap clothes, or Gymboree, which I also like, but if I find a great bargain, I absolutely buy. I buy lots of 2nd hand clothes thru consignment stores and Ebay for my 4 small children ages 1-7, and really like when I can snag the durable, cute Gap brand!

I have to selfishly admit that most of my 11 children have not owned much Gap clothing…but their mom has. And the reason is because they have quality, classic clothes that fit me. And I don’t change sizes as quickly as my kids…So I get years of wear out of what I buy.

Thanks for offering this give-away. Fun!

Quality can’t be beat (although watch out for the lighter weight tees).

I couldn’t agree with you more. Sometimes you have to spend a little money to get the best deal in the long run. I love gap clothes for that reason, they are well made, durable and classic. I usually don’t buy gap new unless there is a killer sale or clearance. However, I am very choosy about what clothes I buy second hand for the kids &, for pennies on the dollar, they are still dressed in GAP, gymboree, children’s place, janie & jack, hannah anderson, etc. I feel like just because it is second hand doesn’t mean it has to look that way. I still get clean, well made, durable, cute clothes; I just let someone else pay the high end price first.

While I very rarely shop at the mall stores, I do think that buying new jeans at the Gap is worth the price. My super slim 11 year old daughter can find jeans that fit there, and the toddler jeans are the best fitting jeans I’ve found. Plus – so cute!!

I love Gap clothing and accessories. I spent $40 (which was a BIG purchase for me) for a black messenger bag when I was student teaching. I used that same bag day in and day out while I was teaching for the last 10 years. It still looks fabulous. Having two boys and a little nephew, we love to be able to pass clothes from one kid to the next. When you purchase quality items like Gap kids, even the last kid in line will still get great looking hand me down clothes. 🙂

The cutest thing my little guy had as a baby was a Gap blue and white sweater coat. He got so many compliments because of how cute it was and how it made his eyes look even bigger and bluer then they already are. And then I’d get asked if I made the sweater…

You know it is good when it gets those kind of compliments! And the best part is that I paid $1 for it at a garage sale 🙂 I’ve never let myself shop at Gap (only gotten items second hand) for my babies and I’d sure love the chance!

My husband used to work for the Gap, so we’ve appreciated the quality of their clothing for years. I, too, buy most clothing from thrift stores, but we hunt around the clearance racks at the Gap every chance we get, especially for my husband’s dress clothes and underwear for the boys. I love Gap clothing. I worked at the Gap during my junior year of high school and I loved it. It was a good job that gave an incredible discount to it’s employees. Now as a mother, I love Gap for their durability. I am a firm believer in quality over quantity, and Gap provides exactly that. Across the board, a great company 🙂

I love Gap kids clothes because, like you said, they hold up. The fabric is great quality and stays nice after being washed and washed. I have never had a hem roll outor a seam come apart, like I have with new things from cheaper retailers, and I have been able to hold onto things for the younger ones and have them still look great.

Believe it or not I was just at GAP today! It is tax-free weekend in TN, plus I got a 30% discount which equaled $10.50 per pair for jeans for my son. These are the jeans he likes best, so I was thrilled to get such a great deal. I’d much prefer to buy good quality that will last through multiple children, than waste our clothing budget on poor quality that doesn’t last. Of course, I love finding super deals as well!

I had never heard about Gap until we had our first child (now 14 yrs old). I realized right away their quality when even their socks-their SOCKS!-came out of the wash clean after many uses and then after several children. I love their quality.

I love GAP clothing mainly because of its stellar quality. My sisters and I pass clothing back & forth for our children. I currently have the youngest boy and his GAP hand-me-downs look almost as good as when first purchased 10 years ago for his oldest boy cousin! And the style is classic as well!

as a mom of 4 I can totally relate with what you are saying, when more than 1 kid needs to wear an item I’m learning that sometimes paying a bit more on the front end leaves more dividends for the younger kids at the back end and I don’t have to rebuy everything. Gap is a great way to buy kids quality clothes, at reasonable prices and know that they will last much longer than a similar item might that is bought from a cheaper retailer… the thing is, you can spend $10, or you can spend $15-20 and get a much better item that will last twice as long, and you wont have to rebuy the $10 item again and again…. there is no need to lead a disposable lifestyle when it comes to clothing!

I love Gap clothes as well. I have clothes from the Gap that i bought in the 90’s that are still fine and don’t look dated. AND they have great sales. If i hit the Gap on a last chance sale day, i can usually find the same prices as Wmart, but they last so much longer.

I LOVE Gap clothing (for me *&* my kids) because…

    A. It doesn’t wear out as quickly as other brands.
    B. It’s super cute.
    C. There’s a Gap outlet on our way to our annual vacation spot.
    D. Their sale page online (or section in store) is almost always bursting with great deals.
& E. They have a great rewards program. I got all our stocking stuffers (socks & undies) for free last Christmas by saving up my rewards $$. 🙂

Such cute clothes and great quality. I have a toddler dress that my sister-in-law bought at a garage sale. Her two daughters wore it. She passed in on to me and my two daughters wore it. I passed it to a friend whose little girl is wearing it now. It still looks awesome and I’m looking forward to getting it back for my next daughter to wear!!!
