Child Training Bible {Giveaway}

As parents we are commanded to train our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph. 6). We are to speak to our children of His words when we lie down, when we walk by the way and when we rise up (Deut. 6). Our standard for raising our children is the law of God and what better way to faithfully remind us and them of that standard than to turn to Scripture.

What is the Child Training Bible?

I love what the Dunn family has done to make turning your children to Scripture simpler and easier. They’ve created the Child Training Bible.

The Child Training Bible uses a system of cards, tabs and highlighters with a standard-sized Bible to create a Bible that is easily marked and tabbed to allow you to quickly and easily locate the passages of Scripture that apply to many of the areas of sin that children and adults struggle with.

The Child Training Bible is simple to assemble, although it does take a bit of time to complete.

Is your child struggling with anger? The Child Training Bible has many passages of Scripture that talk about anger marked with color coded tabs and matching highlighting on the specific verses. This makes it fast and easy to locate the appropriate passages as you and your child deal with specific issues.

The Child Training Bible covers more than 20 topics including: disobedience, fear, fighting, defiance, lying and impatience. Each topic has eight or more Scripture references, some heart seeking questions (“Are you showing patience in this situation?”), some application questions and a simple prayer for help with this problem.

What we thought of the Child Training Bible.

We love the concept of taking our children directly to the Bible when we have need to correct and discipline them. We’ve done this for years and the Child Training Bible certainly makes it quick and easy to find applicable passages.

Bella (1) enjoyed playing with the CTB tabs while I assembled

We love that you and your children are reading from a real Bible instead of a book that has some applicable Bible verses printed in it.

We love that it’s adaptable. We can add and mark our own Scripture passages for some of the topics they’ve already covered.

We were a little disappointed in some of their Scripture choices for some of the issues. (i.e. For defiance the Child Training Bible has Phil. 2:8 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on cross.” but not 1 Sam. 15:23, Deut. 13:5 or any of the other passages that speak about the severity with which God views defiance or rebellion.)

We would like to see a more variety and specificity in their chosen passages. Our solution to this has been to mark additional passages for many of the topics.

The Child Training Bible charts are available from the Dunn family for just $9.

How does this deal with Salvation? Is baptism included?

    Valerie Reply:

It has an entire section (the largest section actually) devoted solely to the Gospel. God’s grace is abounding in the scripture choices.

    Kimberly @ Raising Olives Reply:

It has 22 verses referenced for the Gospel.

They are very basic verses that talk about God, Man, Jesus and What Now

(i.e. God – Gen. 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”, Jesus – John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.”, etc.)

There is nothing at all about baptism in the gospel section and it is not a separate topic.

    Sam @ Sam's Noggin Reply:

So is there “faith only” then, if baptism is not mentioned, because baptism is everywhere in the NT. πŸ™‚ Perhaps I will have to take this idea and do it on my own. πŸ™‚

    Kimberly @ Raising Olives Reply:

This is my basic problem with their choices of Scripture. I felt that some were too generic and basic for the variety of topics they included.

The example I used in the post (verses encouraging obedience under the topic of defiance while there were no verses about how God views defiance as the same thing as witchcraft or Satan worship) was one of several where I felt the passages chosen weren’t as specific and helpful as they could’ve been.

However, I love the idea and many of the verses chosen were terrific. It also really gave us a good start and we’ve simply gone on to include many of our own passages. (Our family has enjoyed For Instruction in Righteousness: A Topical Reference Guide for Biblical Child-Training as a good, extremely thorough resource of this type.)

Thank you so much, for your thoughts, and the link.

This would be wonderful for our family! We struggle “in the moment” with training our children according to God’s word. It seems as if we panic and just want either immediate obedience or for the situation to just be over. This would be such a great resource for directing us back to the fact that we are shepherding hearts and not programming them to be “good”.

I would LOVE this resource so we can learn together that God’s word is the BEST resource of all for ALL circumstances! It is great that I will know just where to go to show that to them for all situations as a life guide. It will just be second nature to them and ME! Thanks for the chance to win! This will be a great addition to our newly established homeschool day!

I believe the only lasting instruction is the Word of God. I’m very interested in the Child Training Bible as a tool to continue instructing our children in the ways of God and to demonstrate time after time that we look to His Word for our answers, not man’s opinions.

Wow! What a great resource! We have four children and homeschool and I am often using Scripture throughout the day to teach/train/correct, but there are times I am stumped. I know that I really need to sit down this summer and search for verses on 2 topics in particular. This resource would make my job “easier” and help me to have the verse that I need quickly–when the time calls for it. So glad it is an ESV too. My favorite version!

Great resource! I just bought this a few weeks ago and I’m in the process of putting it together. It’s does take some time but I’ve already started to use it with my 4 year old. What a great idea. I have 2 adopted children who had never even heard of God until I adopted them. I brought my son home in July. He was nearly 6, and had no idea what I was talking about. I really want to talk about God’s will for our lives as soon as a sin issue comes up, but in the moment, it’s hard to find the scripture verse I need while caring for everybody else. I want my children to understand that house rules aren’t about what Mama wants, they are about what God wants.

I have admired this set on several other blogs and have enjoyed learning how parents practically use it with their children. My oldest has been learning to read this past year and is just about at the age where he could be going through this even on his own! I also like that this is encouraging families to go through the bible together to find answers, vs. looking on bible search engines online (although those are great, it’s now how I want to train my child to look things up in the bible).

I’d love to have this resource in our home to point our children to the exact place in Scripture where God has addressed this behaviour. It is so important that our children see is reach for God’s Word when there’s a problem, and see what God says about it. When our children can learn to filter their behaviour through the Bible, they can see for themselves where they stand with God! Thanks for hosting this giveaway. It’s also important to note that we can use those additional verses in place of the ones they use, when we see a better passage that addresses the issue.

I should love to win this one. We are struggling to find those passages when we need them. We also struggle to get materials for our homeschooled children, we live in Europe. There is hardly any good material in our language and our country. The postages are high to order from elsewhere. We moved a little while ago to another country, so we could start homeschooling. I guess this sounds as a lot of misery, but that is not true, we love the homeschooling in freedom and have much fun, even with little materials. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to enter.

I have done everything in my own power to discipline my children and God has laid on my heart that it can not be my way but His way. I AM DONE with yelling – I SERIOUSLY does NOT work!! I am ashamed to confess that but know that God is changing me. I believe this would really help our family!

    Thanks for the giveaway

This would be a great addition to our home. I have 3 daughters, two with special needs. They are concrete thinkers, and sometimes when we we say, “We do (…….) because God wants us to,” they don’t understand because they don’t “see” God. But now that they are starting to read and comprehend, we have started to take them to the Bible. But as others have mentioned, it’s hard sometimes to come up with the right verses at the right times.

I am interested in winning the Child training Bible, because I am so grateful, so totally amazed and heartened by the changes I have seen in our family since we have made learning the Word a priority in our house. We recently went back to using the Bible as our only textbook. This is a time consuming method of teaching, but so much better than any other method I have tried. I would love to use this Bible, especially with my little boys. Since, like you we have many children, i am trying to stick to my budget and not purchase thigns that are not absolutely necessary (sometimes this is so hard when i see great materials like this kit). This is awesome and just the thing we need. Grandpa and I are raising 4 grandchildren, ages 7, 8, 9 and 12, and sometimes I feel we are learning all over again. The world has changed alot since we raised our children, but God’s word is everlasting. We’ve been attending parenting classes at our church, but nothing has come even close to this Children’s Training Bible. We purchased this a while back when they first started. We love it as a great starting point. I wish I would have let the older children find, highlight and tab some of the verses- like hide and seek, I think they would have enjoyed it. If we make another one we will do it as a family!

While I think we have done a decent job of introducing our kids to God’s love through children’s stories/devotionals, I know we need to do a better job of going straight to the Bible. I have heard of this before and I think it would be just as beneficial to me as to my children!

I would love this bible! It’s something that I have been looking for for a while now! How awesome to be able to turn directly to scripture to train our children instead of relying on our sometimes faulty, faint, or frazzled memories of scripture. And what a tool to teach our children to (and HOW to) always look to God’s word FIRST for EVERYTHING! Sola Scriptura!

This would be such a blessing! We have four children and expecting our fifth πŸ™‚ God has done amazing things in our lives. We trust in Him in all we do. And raising our children is the most important. We know we swim upstream from alot of people and we do our best to teach biblical priniples to our children. To have this “tool” would teach us to teach our children. πŸ™‚

I am very interested in this Bible. We just started going to a great church in January. I know we need to do better at home studying the word with our kids who are 3 & 1. I told my 3 year old to stop pulling on my neck because I could die and not come back. He said to me “but Jesus came back” I didn’t say anything else cause I was shocked that he knew that. This Bible will be great for our kids.

I used to go directly to the Bible during discipline with my children and they liked it! It did end up taking longer, but the main problem was the source I was using my husband and some other counsel agreed that it was too harsh and taken out of context used with younger children. All that to say, I no longer go straight to The Word during discipline on a regular basis. I would love to do that again! This Bible looks set up to help me!

This would be a wonderful resource for my family. Many of the principles are in our hearts by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, but there are times that people have questions about our training that I can explain, but I have a hard time bringing scripture into them. His WORD is the determining factor for all. If I cant give the scripture to go along with my opinion, than that’s all it is. May the Lord bless you, your family and your ministry. God bless all that enter in.

We are interested in the child training bible because it would be a fun way to encourage our two daughters to continue learning the english language. It will make it so much more easier for them to complete fill in the blanks of scripture passages that we find in the no greater joy magazines. It will also make copywork fun when I ask them to look up certain passages of scripture. It will make reading exciting for us right before they go to bed. It will make memorization of scripture happen much more frequent. May our minds be full of scripture, ready to quote back to Satan in times of temptation that we may turn away from evil and do His will. May our hearts be full of His word that we may quote it back to God in crying out to Him.

I would love to have this Bible system for my son. He is now 7 and we’ve begun talking about him having his own Bible. He would love to have something with both Testaments as opposed to the little New Testament he now has.

This is a great give away!

The Child Training Bible fits right in with how we are desiring to train our children – not just outward compliance but hiding God’s word in our heart

What a great resource to train them in how to respond to life…not just because mom said so but because God said so!

We are having defiance issues with our 9 year old. I am not yet conversant with the Bible to find verses on my own, this would be a bug help for my learning as well as his.

I would love to use this teaching tool with my 3 little ones. I’m ashamed to admit that I often draw a blank when trying to cite Scripture to explain sin/ character issues to my 5, 3, and 1 year old.

As a homeschooling mom who is just starting out, I am constantly on the look-out for Biblical training resources for my small children. What a concept- to start with the Bible! This would be a wonderful resource to have and will not only help me train my children, but train myself as well to have kindness and truth on my lips throughout the day!

  334. Christy
    April 16, 2012 | 10:33 pm

I would love to use the training Bible. I love to use scripture directly with the children, reading it as often as we can throughout the day with them.

What an awesome idea! I know we all want one. They would be wonderful in each family. Giving life is the most important thing to give our children. Teaching them how to read and apply truth to their lives, there is nothing like it. I know we would all put that to good use. But giving it a shot to enter to win one. :).

I would love to be able to quickly find an appropriate scripture for child training when a particular heart issue arises that we need to address. I also think this would be a good reference to select memory verses based upon the particular spiritual needs of my girls at a given time.

What a great resource. Being so busy with 5 little ones (one who struggles a lot) it would be so helpful to have verses “at your fingertips”

This is something I have been wanting to do with my children. It is hard trying to remember the scriptures when you are a new believer and teach them to your children at the same time. This will be such a big help!

We would love this for our children!! This would be such a time saver when you are in a pinch….like the grocery store, but you still want to correct and guide. I would carry it in my purse for sure!! πŸ™‚

I love this idea. This is a perfct way for my husband and I to dicipline our 3 year old. We need a reminder sometimes that the Word of God has the answers to everything..that we need not look anywhere else. I think this would also help us with scripture memorization.

It would be such a blessing to have this well laid out resource for correction needs. I love to go to the authority above all, God’s Word to show my children what God says about certain sinful choices and behaviors and how we should correct them!

I have five kids, this looks like a great tool for our first born as he is being trained in the way to study the Bible. I hope to set a pattern with me that will carry on through the next four of his siblings.

As young as my daughter is, she is very smart. Although we discipline her, it is a great idea to refer to the bible when she is being “naughty”. The colours will draw her to it. She loves colours :). My bible is missing the March chapter 5 (she did it)

This looks like a great tool to make times of training/learning/disciplining biblically sound and making sure you have Gods word easily at hand to back why you’re teaching what your teaching… Gods will and way in which we should follow and live each day. This would be an asset to any bible believing home. We are a family of 7, 5 children… 15,13,5,2 and 10months… at times I find myself overwhelmed in just how to handle many situations and this sounds like a wonderful tool in helping in those difficult times we all often face when raising families. Thank you for posting the opportunity for so many to be able to have a chance in gaining this helpful tool in their faithful walk/journey with the Lord. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family :o)
