Kitchen Progress and CSA Produce

Many of RO’s Facebook fans know that we would love to move to a place with more property in order to grow and raise more of our own food. In the meantime, it’s been amazing to watch how God has worked to provide us with fresh, wholesome food in the middle of our subdivision.

We’ve had our own small garden for years

but with our limited yard space and sunshine it only provides a small portion of the produce our family consumes.

This is the fresh, naturally grown produce that God provided for our family this week through our CSA. This is our family’s portion of produce for this week.

Our CSA shares

Last week we had loads of Bok Choy, broccoli and Swiss Chard. This week we have kale and more squash. Each week during the 25 week growing season we will receive 2 bushels of fresh, in season produce.

At the same time and place that we pick up our CSA shares, we are able to pick up our raw milk and cream.

So each Saturday morning after we pick up our milk and produce we wash and prep all of our produce and start shaking our fresh cream to create our week’s supply of butter and buttermilk. It’s a nice routine and it’s lovely to see our refrigerator full of fresh produce, milk, cream, butter and buttermilk by Saturday afternoon.

And for those who are interested in our kitchen progress here are some recent pictures:

We were a little gutsy and went with wood for our new counter top/serving area and are thrilled with how it turned out!

We just need to finish up some final details; more polyurethane, a baseboard, and kick plate, tile back splash, wall paint and a few shelves.

It’s so much nicer to work in the kitchen now and we owe a huge thank you to Seth for his know-how and all of the hours he’s put into the project.

Thanks so much for the link up to the CSA!! We actually have a couple right here in our area! How awesome this idea is! We have a large garden but we do not plant a huge variety of items so the CSA will provide the other vegetables! Thanks again!!

Your kitchen looks fantastic! I love the solution for the lost storage in the kitchen. The wood cabinets look amazing in your dining area! We have a storage shortage and a similar short wall separating our kitchen/family room. I think I might replicate your storage idea. So smart!!

Nutri mill and wonder mill are two good brands. We have a wonder mill and love it! I have friends with the nutrimill. From what I’ve experienced and heard from friends, both have great customer service so if you do have a problem or question, they fix the problem or answer your question quickly. Hope it helps!
