We Meet the U.S. Olympic Swim Team

Yesterday Mark had a surprise for the kids, we got up early and headed down to the Allan Jones Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee to watch the U.S. Olympic Swim Team practice.

Since our family enjoys the Olympics and make an effort to watch the events televised on the main station (since we don’t get the others) this was especially exciting for the children.

Olympic gold medalist, Brendan Hansen, practices breast stroke

In God’s good providence we had a great view of the team practicing in the outside pool

Swimmer – Dana Volmer

and the kids were able to talk with a few of the athletes, get some autographs and even a picture with Brendan Hansen.

(I’m thankful that ALL the children got into the picture, there was no time to double check to see if someone was missing.)

We were leaving the same time as Michael Phelps. This is the best picture I got, but he gave the kids a wave (while I stood there without the camera).

This year the Olympic swimming competition will be even more fun than usual and the kids are especially pulling for Brendan Hansen to win his first individual gold medal!

Do you watch/enjoy the Olympics in your home?

Can any swim fans help us identify the two female swimmers pictured?

We love watching the Olympics! I am always trying to find out a way to creatively earn P.E. credits by just watching. HA!

Some of my fondest memories have been of my oldest two trying to mimic the gymnasts by walking on a 2 x 4 flat on the floor, using a hula hoop to dance, etc.

We love the Olympics. So glad your family got to see some of the Olympians in person. A definite treat!

Totally cool!!! I love that! Yes, we love the Olympics and are looking forward to watching them! We watched some of the Gymnastic finals the other night. We enjoy Gymnastics and Swimming the most in the summer Olympics, with a little bit of beach volleyball thrown in. (Just wish those ladies would wear some clothes!) ;)

Wow – that really was a treat for them. I’ll be looking out for your swimmers now (Phelps is the only one I ‘know’, but now I’ll look out for the others too :) )

How cool Kimberly! What a wonderful opportunity for your family! My uncle is a former Olympic wrestler and I was able to watch him qualify in Leipzig, Germany, for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. It was so neat to see all the countries represented.
I enjoy swimming during the Olympics but my favorite sport is Gymnastics hands down!

I am so envious! I was a hard core swimmer in my day and my husband now swims with a masters program. we think one, if not two, of our kids will be swim team ready next year. I LOVE the Olympics, esp swimming! Lucky ducks!

Sorry for the anonymous comment, I’m just a little paranoid about giving my name out.

As for the swimmers: I could certainly be wrong, but I believe those are

We LOVE watching the Olympics! In previous years it has been a bit challenging to actually watch them since we do not own a TV and so many of the main events are broadcast at a later hour (making it hard to stay late at someone else’s home to watch them) but this year they are being broadcast over the internet! Yes, there will be FULL online coverage of the 2012 Olympics online -not just short little clips of minor happenings. We are thrilled and can’t wait to be able to enjoy cheering from the comfort of our own home -we will probably even be inviting people over to watch with us!
